Fivestar Werber Sportswear

I’ve been hovering here for quite some time, I love my Aero’s and my schotts but bloody hell how much?
Just ordering a new Werber Sportswear from Shawn at Fivestar, what an incredibly accommodating gentleman he is too, discussed leather, lining and thread options, can’t wait for the finished result.

That hide looks magnificent Walt. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it.
It appears to have quite a lot of grain in it doesn’t it, I’ll right a review when I get hold of it but from the pics Shawn has sent me it looks pretty good and for £250 hopefully can’t go wrong but we’ll see...

Okay here it is straight out of the bag, actually delivered folded in a bag within a plastic DHL mail bag which was torn, hence the back and arms are somewhat heavily creased, I'm sure they will drop out after some use no damage to the jacket, it got here PDQ as well, certainly given the present circumstances.
It's been made to my measurements and fits pretty well I think, possibly another quarter inch in the arms maybe.
It's nice I like it a lot but it is indeed a two hundred quid jacket and not anything approaching Aero Goodwear or ELC's output.
I can't fault the way it's put together though, the knits the lining the stitching and the repro label and Talon zipper are all first rate, it's just the leather, I chose the seal horsehide, it's incredibly grainy almost pebbly in places, some seriously wrinkly horses were used in the making of this jacket and there isn't a matched panel on it, the tanning is a dark seal which I like, I have a russet Aero A2 which is a tad conspicuous for me, it's also incredibly soft giving it a broken in feel from the off but unlike the aforementioned manufacturers, nowhere near the same quality hide is used, for instance the left arm on this one is paper thin in places a QC issue maybe because the rest of the jacket does appear to be okay, I have read very good things about the goat hide on here maybe that or steer hide are better options..?
In short though I do like it a lot, it's a nice pattern, it has narrow arms cut quite high giving it a nice trim fit no 80's blouses here...

For the money 8 out of 10 would recommend

Nice looking jacket Walt but I'm with you regarding the hide, it is a little "too" grainy in places but I'm sure that will balance out when the rest of the jacket catches up with those areas. The packing is a wee bit disappointing too but Shawn is never far away from these posts so I'm sure he'll take your comments on board. Everything else looks great tho and I think the knits work well with the Seal hide. I'm guessing the hide is chrome tanned? I see on their website that they do a semi aniline goat in russet and I'm wondering if they do the same in Seal? All up tho, and like you say, its a lot of jacket for your 250 quid and to 90% of the population it probably looks no different to the Aeros, Eastmans and BKs.of the world.

regards

Looks nice and pretty well put together, especially at this price point.

Thanks for the review and all the pics.
