A very sobering group of photos taken at Iwo of what life was really like at that time. It wasn't only the missions over Japanese territory that were dangerous but the take offs and landings.

It would be interesting to see a statistical comparison of how many aircraft the US lost in WW2 to ground accidents, takeoff/landing crashes, mid-air collisions, etc, versus aircraft losses directly due to enemy action.

Fantastic collection of shots-interesting to note the amount of A-2's and B-10's on show, indicating that flight jackets certainly did get worn in the Pacific.
