Hi everyone,
Have meant to do a posting for some time but just been too busy.
As some of you know already, I have been an avid collector of all things AAF/USAAF related and always try to get to the War & Peace Show and other local militaria fairs.
Well, for sometime now I have helped out on a...
My reason for buying is that I really cherish the history and the search for the story behind who once wore these things. Any of us can have a repro and however fine a repro it is that is only what it will ever be. Of course, originals are an 'investment' if they have provenance and are in 'good...
I couldn't agree more with you Bill,
The originals were painted by/and for pilots who were not sure if they would survive the next mission. Most of us today cannot understand or appreciate what that means. IMO, there is a big difference between original pin-up and a lot of the repro stuff. I...
Great jacket!
I bought a size 46 Cagleco about four years ago and this is in pretty much unworn condition but not in its box. I think mine is an earlier contract (around 1954/55) and they are really great quality jackets.
When I got mine it still had some white 'spots' as guides to where the...
That's interesting to see but surely apart from the nylon stuff, JCs A-2s are much better value and offer IMO a higher degree of authenticity. Maybe there is a market for RMJ in the States but, at those prices, I would be surprised.
My first jacket was an A-2 from Aero in Scotland in the late 1980s. I had always loved war films and documentaries and remembered seeing Catch 22 and admiring the jackets in that.
Over the years I have had dozens of jackets and it is only in the last few years I have ventured into originals as...
To be honest, I would look for a good condition original. I have had a few Bulova A-11 and these are great watches and have all the history. You can pick these up regularly on ebay and they are not much more (sometimes cheaper) than buying an inferior repro that will never be comparable to the...
The weather has been strange here for the last couple of weeks. Windy, cold, warm and on some days even slightly humid. I wore a G-1 last week and found myself sweating in it!
I have worn one of my GW Goatskin RWs the last couple of days and this has been fine. Looking forward to 'sub-zero'...
I saw this jacket when Andrew picked it up and it comes from an impeccable source (who I have known for some years). The jacket really is stunning and the fleece feels velvety and 'new'. The previous owner had never worn it in the rain and I doubt it had any more than a half dozen outings. It...
Great jacket Andrew,
I had the good fortune of seeing this in the flesh last week and it really is a great looking jacket. I did see this one on ebay but was not sure about the condition but it is superb - pics were not great on ebay but Andrew does have the eye for these things and it has paid...
Just noticed something I have not seen before on an original A-2.
The pocket snaps are covered on the inside, similar to the covering of cloth on the collar snaps. All of the original A-2s I have seen have the inside part of the snap exposed. Has anyone else come across this before? I have...
