WW2 Peacoat

I just acquired a dead stock, unissued, “new” WW2 peacoat. Yes, it’s the real thing. Pictures to follow later.

it’s stunning. I feel guilty even putting it on…it was still “crisp”, if that makes sense. Felt like I was the first to ever try it on. Pockets were still sealed on the inside!

Didn’t mean for those pictures to duplicate display like that. I’ll have to fix it when I get to a proper computer.

That’s amazing to think that an 80 year old wool jacket has survived in that kind of condition, without so much as a moth nip or a pulled thread.
This definitely shows that jackets like this are still out there waiting to be found .
Thanks for the photos !

Dry storage in the mountains of MT for 80 years will do that.

nice!

but no-go zone for me as a cat owner even if I could ever get my hands on one of these (dark colored wool garments, other cat owners will know why :D)

Stunning. Congratulations on a great find.

Pre-1970s peacoats are probably the best value vintage militaria out there. The quality of materials and workmanship on these is pretty remarkable. Imagine how much the high-end reproduction manufacturers would charge for a coat like this even if they could get anything approaching the quality of the wool shell, the lining (they can't—the Buzz reproduction from a few years ago which retailed for over $700 was a scratchy, inconsequential garment, a rag really in comparison to the real thing).

a real beauty, and ever so practical as well. hmmmm.....makes me want to dig out miy 1930s example. back in the late 70s early 80s it was my go to winter coat.
