What do I have here? G-1 jacket

Hi guys,

Bought this jacket from a fellow forummember not too long ago. It's a G-1 style jacket and i think it's goatskin with a real mouton collar, single ply knits and a blackened brass Talon zip.

The label was initially sewn in half in the lining (see pics) and I opened that up. It shows a (fantasy..?) contractnumber.

What kind of jacket do I have and can someone put a date on it?

Thanks!

BTW: the dark blue cap is an original wool (navy) ballcap which has been abused by me and turned a bit purple due to sunray. I've bought it in the early eighties at The Thrift Shop in London. Had a burgundy red one as well but ruined that one completely. They had quit a lot of them at the time all NOS.

You have what I believe is a commercially made G-1 jacket made by FE Co. for civilian use . They are great jackets and are usually reasonably priced . I’m pretty sure they are made of goatskin and real mouton collars . The Flying Equipment Company is listed as a possible maker of contract issued G-1 jacket to the USN in Wikipedia, but I’m not sure that an accurate statement . Here’s a list of G-1 makers for your future use.
Cheers

I’m sure others will jump in here who can help you further, as my knowledge on G-1s is fairly limited.
cheers

holycannaloni! davids outfitters. that brings back memories, plenty of em too. davids was a large costume rental [for bay theater, movies, ads, etc] as well as a seller of all manner of used civy and military gear. they were in biz since god was a pup. long ago, I picked up a mint wwll [same as merchant marine captains] officers double breasted dress jacket for less then $20. it fit as though it was made for me, and served as my "dress for occasions" jacket for years. I almost shit myself when some years later Ralph Lauren came out with clone [sorta] of the jacket. wha happened to it? it died a slow pained moth death. sorry to go off subject....a little.

Jack: I have a similar jacket from FE, one of my favorites because of the quality. They tend IMHO to follow the pattern of the 55J14 jackets produced in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Mine, like yours appears, to be a very high quality jacket. What size is yours? bob

There's no sizetag but I would guess a 44... Originally there has been a lot of patches on the jacket just like on yours but they were all removed. Luckilly is goatskin very forgiving and doesn't show the stitchmarks too well.

Is is save to state that these jackets were made in the fifties?
