It’s allegedly a USN silk pilots scarf…. Just got it for £20 of Ebay…… I bought it, primarily, because I was after a silk scarf for when I am on my Harley to save neck chaff! It was cheaper than a new Tootal or similar and being stamped USN, Well - couldn’t resist!

Nup...

Those stains would do my head in! ;)
Granted - they did me! But a bit of googling, very weak bio hand wash and a 30 minute soak in white vinegar has largely removed a lot of the lighter staining and reduced the heavier….. the price to pay was the fading of the U.S.N stamp but that is easily replaced. I gave it a very light iron as well. The vinegar tip - It’s returned the softness and sheen, and as it’s for on me bike well - my grubby neck will most likely replace the stains too!
