USN 37-J-1 variant

Both of these grabs are from the 1939 film WINGS OF THE NAVY. The top one features a 37-J-1 we're familiar with that has been repro'd by Buzz and others. Below is a variant with flat pockets and no windflap that I''ve not seen before.

Great pic’s. I really like this jacket. I was late to the party and ordered one of the last ones available from BR in a size 40 and it was really large on me. I sent it back. I think a 38 would have worked but they were all gone by then. Wish I had one that looked like these. A relatively unknown jacket by many and I think under appreciated. Thanks for sharing the pics. That second variation is a mystery.

I suspect it was an early test batch. They’re pictured on Marine pilots at Quantico in 1931.
