Shrinking your sweater

I bought this one from Eastman about 10 years ago, size 44. Then I lost some weight and now wear ca. 40 (some 42). Tried to see if someone would exchange it for a smaller size (successful with my RAF sweater, but no luck with this one). So it's been sitting in my closet for the last few years until I figured, let me try to shrink it. Washed it in a regular washing machine which didn't do anything, then threw it in the dryer, first a couple of minutes, no change, then longer and longer until it started to dry and "voila", suddenly it was a perfect size for me.
