Shearling flight jacket question - how much do the sleeves shorten from creasing on a new jacket?

Hi all,

I'm getting up to speed on the shearling flight jackets (that ELC Irvin Flyweight is really calling to me) and was wondering how much the sleeves shorten from creasing after wearing on a new jacket. On an A-2, I typically see anywhere from .5 to 1 inch. What about the shearling jackets?

Also, does the shearling stretch a bit after wearing like a goat or horse A-2 does? And, how much does the wool fleece compress after wearing?

I appreciate any assistance given!

The sleeves on my shearlings haven't got any shorter. Nothing has been stretched either. I haven't noticed any compressed fleece either. Perhaps the jackets have to be worn for many years before this happens. My oldest shearling is only a few years old.

That's because Mr.P you keep yourself trim and have lovely jackets that fit.. believe me when you squeeze a 48 inch beer belly into
42 inch chest jacket ('Cos you have a 42 inch chest) then those arms ride up, the body panels look like shrink wrap and the fleece compacts up like perma frost... believe me I know!

Not saying that's Abyss's issue though.

If anything Abyss, shearling has some give. It won’t really create those deeper creases in the sleeves etc. that HH does though, just the nature of the material. Sort of resets itself after you take it off.
