I was merely mentioning that i couldnt find anything in my Sigmund Eisner lists to prove its legibility .

Just re-read my post and it sounds a bit nasty! Not my intention at all.

When I first saw the Japanese repro's of the jacket, I definitely thought "What the hell is this?" as well. But upon seeing the real jackets first hand (before going on to acquire a few) the materials, construction, lining, windproof lining, zipper, and knits all convinced me it was at the very least a WW2-era garment. I then devoting an inordinate amount of time to finding evidence of their use, and (as mentioned) came up with dozens of photos of the jacket being used in large numbers exclusively by Seabees (and ONLY in Iceland/ Alaska).

Its the contract number thats thrown me ! It looks like a QM number not a USN number :confused:
