Forgive my ignorance but this is a jacket that I know nothing about. I've seen photos of it, but I've never seen a vintage military issue one. Do they exist?

I'm with the good Doctor, apparently it's historical balderdash.

That's not to say it isn't/wouldn't be a nice functional jacket, just that it never was an actual military spec issued jacket.

From a casual observers prospective, it seems like the design would have made it a fairly functional military flight jacket.
The pocket placement, the length and composition looks good to my untrained eye.

It's not a million miles away from an Indy jacket Burt in terms of design. Not a bad looking jacket at all.
