I’ve been looking at sites that sell reproduction WWII Reverse upper service shoes ( rough out).
My question relates to the presence or absence of rivets on the front quarters of the uppers. According to At The Front, the rivets only appeared on the very first cap toe version and were discontinued after about six months and all shoes thereafter came with plain toes and no rivets. WWII Impressions has a similar shoe with rivets, so which is correct. The shoes in question are the issue shoes for the AAF and Army, not the USMC “Boondockers”.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Is one style correct, or are they both normal variants?
