Proper Sewing Of Name Tag On A-2

I want to have a leather name tag sewn on my repro A-2 but, I'm not sure if it should be sewn on through the liner. What is the proper way (the way it was done during WWII) to put the tag on? Any guidance you can provide would be very helpful. Thanks
