I had an '88 Honda Hawk GT like the one above, but red. FANTASTIC bikes! And way ahead of their time! Nice to see women riders out there. I think the industry has made more bikes appealing and built for smaller folks, and I see more and more ladies riding now. I truly miss that bike!

I got a little Yamaha 250 v twin for my wife after I finished my Harley restoration. That was an awesome little machine. Never had to do a thing to it. Just start it up and go year after year. She even took me on the back with a can of gas once when I ran out. Little bike handled it no problem.

Wasn’t actually planned. Had 2 number decals left from a previous project. I thought, shit all I have is 2 nines left. Can’t use the same number on both bikes. Hang on, I think I have a cheeky idea. She didn’t see the humour in it. Gave me a balling out( and for those like minded out there, not the good kind) and made me assure her that I wouldn’t point it out to anyone. Well the bikes have been gone for 12 years, and in pete’s world the statute of limitations are up.

She is definitely smitten with hers and kudos to her she specifically tracked one down as it would be the right height for her. She does virtually all her own servicing and work on it too.

Good for her. I’m a big believer in having technical knowledge of whatever machine your operating. Working on the line we had a few pilots who had no idea and no interest in what the aircraft was doing. If it was doing something it hadn’t in the last 100 times they would just snag it in the book and walk away. As far as they knew, when you push the levers forward it gets louder and faster. So anytime we had to do full power run ups we would call it a max noise check

This was in 2010. Crappy picture but this was my old ironhead sportster that I restored. Just sold it 2 years ago. Jacket was an Eastman hh house. Should have kept it. Was a nice jacket.

I've always loved ironheads. This is the engine you need in a Sportster !

Sold my last bike 2 years ago so I’m digging through old pictures. This is in 2007. I restored a 1977 Yamaha yz400 and a 77 yz125 for my wife. 400 was an animal. 400cc single lung two stroke. Torque monster.

A 400 YZ... it must pull hard !
I rode a few years in enduro and I had the opportunity to try a 500 KX and a husky 360. I remember on the husky 360, the kick was ridiculously small (small lever arm). No matter how much weight I put on it, I couldn't push it in.
As for the 500 KX... I only remember having to endure the power. Impossible to keep the front wheel on the ground. The bike decided where it wanted to go, and I just hung on as best I could.

Here is my Buell 1200 S1 from 1996 (the only bike I still own and will never sell). A fantastic bike... extremely expressive. Nothing is comparable.

Before the Buell I rode a Ducati 750 SS. A very good bike, quite demanding but it rides like a real sports bike.

I also rode a "superbiker" on a VOR 400. VOR is a very rare Italian brand that no longer exists. This bike was a work of mechanical art.

And I loved riding enduro with a VOR 450 and a 125 KTM EXC

I really miss dirt bikes. We’re always a lot more fun then Street bikes. Would love to have a modern 4 stroke but at 62 I’m beyond it. Even though I work out and keep in shape, you can’t mask the aches pains from twisting around in airplanes all your life. Especially the back and knees. Even a couple hours on the sportster felt like I’d been riding a horse all day. What’s that saying, I’m in good shape for the condition I’m in

I think the thing that makes this new Royal Enfield so nice for me is that at 61, I've done my racer boy stuff and this one puts zero pressure on me to ride over my head. While I'm a stubborn guy, when you're riding a proper sports bike, it's hard not to do some crazy sh*t.
The RE just goes about putting around town and in a comfy yet appealing throwback package. I honestly thought that sans some occasional dirt riding, I'd be done. Glad that's not the case.

Buell was founded by Erik Buell. A former Harley engineer.
The first Buells, including my bike, had a Harley engine (the Sportster engine). But the engine has been reworked a lot, different camshaft, forged pistons, light rods,...
On my bike, I have an optimized ignition, a free exhaust and a big carburetor which gives me about 90 hp at the rear wheel (and a lot of torque). Not bad for this good old Sportster block !

Yes it's a Buell S1 lightning. But there have been many " lightning" even in the last generations (which are no longer S1).
