Original Knit Cuffs - How Far Are They Set In The Sleeve?

I was looking at some WWII photos of pilots wearing A-2's, and I can see the outline at the end of the leather sleeves where the knit cuff is set in.

Did the A-2's vary on how far into the sleeve the cuffs were set in?

I was told the cuffs were set in aboout 1/2". Could some have been set in closer to 3/4"?
