Luftwaffe Channel jacket

Hello Folks,

Here is another lucky find... large size Luftwaffe Channel jacket, you sometimes see the shearling version or the cloth version with the velveteen lining but for some reason the cloth version with the sheepskin lining rarely turns up and if it does it is usually in poor condition. The zips are made by Zipp
and are marked BCWr-N (sleeve zips) and DRP with the circle underneath (main zip). The snap fasteners are marked PRYM 9 and PRYM H9. As you can see the blue-grey cloth has kept it's colour and has only light signs of wear. The sheepskin liner is made up of a patchwork of small irregular pieces all sewn together which is probably an indication of the extreme shortages of materials later in the war.The Luftwaffe acceptance
tag is in place but all the info has long since faded away. When you look at the details of the jacket you can see inspiration from other jackets, the Irvin and the USAAF cloth jackets come to mind.

Never seen one of those before. Blimey that's a complicated design-must have been a sod to put together!

Hello,

Here is a photo showing some Luftwaffe pilots with the same jacket. The jacket measures 24 1/2" pit to pit so quite a large size.

All those guys are wearing them pretty large, no doubt to accommodate flight suits etc. The collars are enormous.

Jackets like Simons will fetch good money. Especially in the condition and size that his jacket is. I would estimate a $1,500-$2,000 sale price on the open market. I have its brother, a original heated version of the same jacket in about the same size.

Hello,

Nice to see an electrically heated velveteen version. Here is a photo of a pilot and Mutley wearing the shearling version, looking at the large collars you could almost be forgiven for thinking that these jackets were made in the 1970's!
