Spot on... I love his jackets but those back lengths the greatest of which is 25 inches I believe, can’t be right for a size 48.

That’s correct for a WWII fit yes. But, this is why most other makers have added length. The trick is to keep the pattern shape the same, even while making it longer, this way it grades correctly and looks the same on any size person.

I will confine this list to ww2 and prewar contract and ww2 generic style "house" jackets.

Prices are based on the cheapest horsehide version if they sell one, some A-2s were other types of hides and those may be cheaper.

Thanks for responding. I’m not disagreeing with what you say, and you have a lot more knowledge about A2’s than I do , but I have a number of original A2 jackets in sizes 46 and one in 48, all of them longer than 25 inches in back length measured from the rear collar seam to the bottom of the knits. They are anywhere from 26 to 26.5 in length. I’ve never seen a 46 or 48 original with a 25 inch back length . Of course that doesn’t mean anything but that’s been my experience with them.

Yes there were very few controls back then. Every maker made them differently so lengths vary. A lot of people seem to think that these had a standard drawing by the Govt, and they did sort of, but nothing concrete. It was more loose and left to the interpretation of the different makers and their own pattern guys.
