If that’s all the seller has, just the coat with the name on it, and no other provenance or documentation . I would pass it over. The reason being that while the next buyer might like the coat and believe the tale, he’ll be stuck trying to sell it. There’s an old saying “ Buy the item or object, not the story that goes with it “ unless of course there’s some type of photos , documentation or history that goes with it.

Yep, without some form of accompanying provenance the claim and valuation is based purely on the sellers claim and an overwritten name.
