Identify a jacket with no labels ?

I’m wondering if it’s possible to nail down a jacket production by using the following criteria ?

zip maker
pocket style
storm flap shape

I was hoping that zip mfg. maybe could be conclusive...or not?

I’m not an authority by any means but from what little I know, the zip can give you a window or range in time when it was produced, which can be used to give an approximate date of the jackets production .

Depends what sort of jacket we’re talking about. Civilian, as Burt says, you can probably narrow it down to a date range-unless it’s a well-known manufacturer like Buco. Military, like an A-2 or G-1, details like pocket flap shape and stuff like epaulette stitching, you can certainly identify an individual contract by.

This book is the flight jacket bible (albeit Japanese text):

Naturally it covers the MA-1:

I’d probably er on your MA-1 being a 8279D variant, because the later 8279E has pocket flaps (or at least they all seem to). It seems like the wind flap stitching pattern varies between different makers, so this might give you a clue as well. Both the zig-zag stitched variants in this book are Alpha.

Thanks.Yes , 8279D seems to tick all the boxes.1965-66 depending on the interlining ?

The first contract with the orange liner 8279C was Skyline in 1961, I have this jacket.
It looks like your jacket. What is type of inside pockets fabric? Are there any traces where the label was sewn in the pocket?
