How to tighten up waistbands?

You could try getting it (the waistband not the entire jacket) completely wet in very hot water and letting it air dry.

If that doesn't work sounds like it's new knit time.

Tried it with a jacket a little over a year ago. It just made the width (bottom to top) of the waistband shrink down to about half or two thirds what it should be. I’d get the knits replaced.

Those acrylic knits won't shrink much at all. And wool knits will shrink but can get deformed. Like has been said, the fix in this case is to remove and replace the knits. Since they are not wool, you might as well have them replaced with 100% wool knits. Then you can tighten the waist and upgrade the knits at the same time. Steve Sellers here on the forum has done this job for me in the past with flawless results.

Fix it one time and be done with it ….. or spend some time down at your local pizza shop and in a few weeks … Voila! Problem solved !;)
