Help me I.D. this WWII USN shotgun cartridge belt

I'm trying to figure out what this shotgun belt was used for- is this a special issue or common? Can anyone tell what size shells it's made for? Who would have used it? labled USN and dated 1943.

My father was an air traffic controller, and they kept one in the tower. I don't think it got much official use, but it sure was effective if a stray dog wandered onto a runway. :)
