Help me I.D. this WWII USN shotgun cartridge belt

I'm trying to figure out what this shotgun belt was used for- is this a special issue or common? Can anyone tell what size shells it's made for? Who would have used it? labled USN and dated 1943.

Wow! I had no idea. Now I need to find a holster and flare gun...

Now I need to find a holster and flare gun...

My father was an air traffic controller, and they kept one in the tower. I don't think it got much official use, but it sure was effective if a stray dog wandered onto a runway.
