Quick question. Is the Contract No.N288s-30999 helmet a Navy or AAF contract?

I went by the contract number, but Bell's Aviation is useful for ID ....

Have you checked out Mick Prodgers book? It describes the confused system that developed over time with various manufacturers. Generally though all Slote and Klein helmets had the contract No.N-288s regardless of pattern material etc. If you don't have it i'll try to get time to scan the info.

Andrew, N288s is the contract number prefix, 288 being the Naval Aviation Supply Depot Philidelphia.

So presumably, 30999 would be one of several Slote & Klein contracts?
