Hi and welcome to the forum :) There's been miles of words written over the years about WW2 German leather jackets/coats, usually "is it, isn't it?" and there's seldom a definitive answer. the problem with these jackets is that there was very little in the way of official military-issue leather, the Luftwaffe especially allowed their pilots to privately-purchase theirs, often being French cycling jackets. Officers of the army and similar had these long leather coats tailor-made. Kriegsmarine and U-Boat crews used Italian leather coats and their own style which although worn by some Panzer units was never official to that service. So the problem nowadays is that any leather jacket/coat in those styles can be listed as "original WW2 German.." when in fact they are not, many sellers now go as far as adding shoulder boards and marks in the leather making out metal insignia had been there. Post-war German Police and indeed Austrian Police issued leather jackets too and these sometimes claim to be WW2 when they are not. The coat you mention is more likely post-war, if the seller is near to you then perhaps arrange a viewing in person, nothing like hands-on to make up your mind. But the bottom line is without firm provenance always buy with caution, if you can get a 1930's/40's leather jacket for a good price then that's good, there's plenty listed regularly on ebay and sell for sensible prices but be careful when "original WW2 German" is ever mentioned!
Good luck with your collecting and hopefully this forum will be a useful place to share and learn about our passion...hope this helps.

From what I know, and have seen, the WW2 German military coats have large, turned up cuffs on the sleeves. You often see pictures of officers with paperwork in them.If you would like to know wether something is original WW2 German or not, Wehrmacht-Awards.com is the place to go.
