Gents,

I've been out of town for a bit and finally today I have time to share a fascinating example of the G-1 from the first series of the 7823. This contract N383-39321A was awarded by Cagleco Sportswear in fiscal year, 1957.

This jacket belonged to Lt. John F. Bott, although I have not found any info about him, the patches tell a bit of his story. Apparently, he was assigned to the HS-5 squadron. In 1959, the HS-5 was assigned to Carrier Antisubmarine Air Group Fifty-Four aboard the U.S.S. Lake Champlain completing several ASW deployments and participating in two Mercury spacecraft recoveries, including America’s first astronaut, CDR Alan B. Shepard.

This jacket is in quite amazing condition, considering it's over 64 years old and has seen real action.

The goatskin leather is in good condition. All parts are genuine to the jacket. Mouton collar shows an amazing rusty shade. Knits are in great shape, which is rare. Talon zipper is working perfectly.
Note that this example is one of the few models that features the punched "USN" on the wind flap and the stenciled "USN" under the collar as well.

Left chest depicts a leather name tag, printed “LT JOHN F. BOTT USNR”.

Right chest depicts a scarce first design "HELANTISUBRON FIVE" patch.

Right shoulder depicts an "U.S.S. LAKE CHAMPLAIN" patch.

Say no more, hope you guys enjoy it!

Regards,
Jorge

Stunning!
Was the zip replaced?
I always thought Calgecos came with a blackened conmar…
Ideally, it should have a blackened Conmar puller, whoever the jacket doesn't show any evidence of a replaced zipper (no extra holes and same thread color). What I find very interesting is that is not the first time I see a Cagleco with a talon zipper.
