G1 Nametag Question

Hello folks

I wonder if the name tags on original military issued G1 jackets were sewn on through the whole material (the liner inclusive) or if they opened the liner at some point, sewn the tag on and closed the liner again. I understand that it will look way better / cleaner with the second option but was this the case in the military or in wartime??

Thank you
Chris

Hi @Enigma1938

Yes, they used the 2nd method but it is not really common. I have one example from Vietnam Era which the name tag was applied to the jacket via opening the upper zipper line, so the same green rigger thread was used to attach the patch and then sew the jacket together again. Here you can see the details. Hope this helps to your research.
