Hi mate. The first photo is when I got the jacket 12 months ago and the others are the jacket nearly 12 months and one winter of solid wear (I Live in Australia and we are just heading out of winter).

it’s an awesome jacket and the weight and thickness have been great in the Australian winter (generally single digits in the evening). any questions feel free to sing out.

I am on a quest to get a D-1 since many moons and was looking at a RM RW D-1 in Japan, but your post and some research on VLJ for 5* Werber has open a new avenue for me. I have some NOS Conmar for this project too so I think I will get in contact with Shawn and look at some options!

Thank for sharing!

Hi Dany. Th be honest mate I don’t think you could beat 5* for “bang for buck. The hide is not as robust as some of the other sheepskins I’ve had (Aero, Eastman RMNZ) but that’s not to say it’s flimsy either, just not as solid. Best part of it is I wear it without buyers guilt and worrying about snags and scuffs etc and it is warm. I was home in Scotland in Feb/March and it took the Edinburgh winter at a canter.

Hello Garry,

Since I have no experience with sheepskins can you expand on "not as robust?" You can actually feel it or its in the thickness?
It could be a show stopper for me as I usually appreciate the quality of my skins and aging is definitely part of it!

Thank you, appreciated!

The actual skin is fine, more in the coloured top coat. I’ve had no issues with it and it’s wearing beautifully but it doesn’t feel as solid as the RMNZ B3 but is closer to the Aero and Eastman topcoats. It’s not really a fair comparison as the B3 I had was a Fenland hide plus the 5* doesn’t retail for £2700+ like the current RM models. I think 5* will send you samples for postage costs mate, why don’t you hit them up.

I've just picked up an as new one of these off eBay but the binding is dark the same as the jacket colour.
My question is does the shiny finish soon dull down, it certainly looks like it from the photos?
I have an aero B6 and this d1 feels very light and thin in comparison. Having said that it drapes well and looks the part.
Another thing, check the back of the two square bits of 'leather' each side of the bottom of the zip. Mine looks suspiciously like pu leather at best and has a white layer on the back.
Yours looks great now it's worn in.

It does dull somewhat JR. mine is not as shiny as it was at first and the colour has lightened a little but I think that’s more about the the gloss fading with wear.

Pvc poli leather isn't impressive if it is

I've worn mine every day since I got it.
It is creasing up and wearing in really quickly.
It is a really nice jacket which really looks the part, and have had compliments from strangers.
If you are on the fence, I would say buy one you won't be disapointed.

Just wanted to ask about the 'Army Air forces' Decal Transfer, is that from Mash online? It looks very nice on your D-1. Did you put the decal on yourself, and was it tricky to apply?
