Buco J-31 by Diamond Uniform

Gents,

Just a quick post about a passion project of mine, that I turned out over the weekend. I have always liked this jacket, but could not get it in my size. That said, I also like the black version, but brown is so much more rare for a moto jacket style... all combined to make me want to crank out this little bad boy for my own winter uses.

Since it is not very cold in Tulsa, even in the winter, I chose to go with a cotton flannel lining instead of the original heavy weight wool in the same "buffalo plaid". Main zipper is an original, late 40's Prentice, which would be correct for this style with Buco. Conmar and or Talons are usually seen on originals for the pockets as well as the sleeve end zips. I went with Talon sleeve zips and my Waldes copies for the diamond chain pocket zips.

I think using this "aged" leather on moto/civi style jackets could be a huge thing! It looks great........

Thanks CBI, I appreciate that, and I think you are right, maybe a new start on my other lines is in order?

Looks like a very fine execution of what seems to be a fairly complicated design. Not having seen this model before, I looked it up online and noticed that other examples are depicted with more or less vertical side-pocket openings while your right pocket is angled (like the PJ-27). Was this a design variant, or your own personal touch? Either way, great job. Enjoy!

Actually they had the hand warmer pocket (throttle) on the wearers right, which was indeed angled. They also made a "Cargo" pocket on the wearers left which is vertical and larger, which this jacket copies. It also is a MUCH deeper pocket on the left, which goes almost totally across the wind flap, on the inside of course. My right hand pocket is a bit more angled, only for my personal preference.

Here is an original jacket, that you can see that the two pockets are very different sizes and angles...

Also of note, the "Right" pocket is only a 5" pocket, which is very tough to get a hand into, so mine is longer as I went for a 6" pocket on the right and 7.5" on the left.

The one I was looking at is apparently a Real McCoy's repro (shown below). The right pocket looks vertical in the picture, but the more I look on the Internet I find other examples with a noticeable angle on the right. Again, nice job on the jacket.

Re: Buco J-31 by Diamond Uniform FOR SALE!

Ok,

So I guess I am shifting this one on as I need to get more cash together to continue my exploration of leather types, as I get closer to the perfect WWII and 1940's style hides.

Will be on here for a day or two and then off to the Greed Bay, at a markup of course to cover eBay/PP fees and shipping. Though this style will carry a $1249.00 retail price tag, it is offered here for patrons,a s a test sample, at $949.00 USD with Free Shipping to the lower 48 and shipping at cost to overseas buyers.

Measurements are as follows:

P to P, Front-25.25" (With action folded)
P to P, Back-26"
Sleeve-27.5"
Shoulder-20"
Waist-23"
Bottom Width-24"

Dave - not my style - BUT for guys who love this style - I can't imagine a better looking jacket. You did a great job and it totally looks the part - you nailed it. I would think you can now give ANY/ALL biker jacket manufacturers a run for their money - this is terrific work!!!!

Post it on Fedora

Thanks CBI,

Thanks for the compliments.
I am not allowed to post to FL now since I told em to "get bent" over their preferred seller pages...ahem sorry "Official Affiliate" threads. 300 bucks a month is just not in the budget for a small maker.

Anyway cheers

Nice jacket!!! You really ONLY told them to get bent?????????

Actually I wasn't even that harsh. I said No thank you... then customers started posting my stuff on there, with questions, and I made the mistake of answering them! I was squashed quickly for that one. It is OK though, it is far too Aero-centric for my tastes anyway, but I do hate cutting off any avenue, as it were.

Aero gets a return on its investment vis-a-vis the moderating at the FL... what a joke. Good for you Dave.
