Bronco 1761 (Last Contract Type A-2)

Gents,

New to our lineup this time is the last contract Type A-2 ordered by the US Army during WWII. This is the 1761 contract by Bronco MFG CO. of NY, NY. This contract is thought to have been for 25,000 units to replace stocks in the Army's inventory after losses during the first two years of the war. Considered to have perhaps been limited to sizes 36 to 40 by many experts and we really have no way of proving that, but it does stand to reason since, as of this writing no extant examples have ever surfaced in any of the larger sizes. That said, it does not limit the offerings that we can do on this jacket and it can be made in any size 38 to 48.

Executed in Seal Vicenza Horsehide, with caramel colored knits and thread. This examples includes an original NOS, M-43 Talon zipper with brass slider and brass clad nickel stop box. Lastly this contract includes NOS United Carr ligne 24 snap fasteners. Though these are put on in an untraditional way just as the originals were, with the dome top inside of the garment on the stud side of the snap.

Originals were also made in cowhide and the finish varied. The one in Gary's book is of a lighter brown.

Yes they were. And I would dearly LOVE to convince people to want a cowhide jacket, but I find that only the most budget minded customers ever opt for cow when horse is available. We may know what is correct and may have spent years studying these jackets, but ultimately this is a business and I have to make what sells and what the people want. I can get my hands on some truly glorious cow these days but alas market demands and all. I really cannot tell you how many times I have had that conversation with customers about correct to contract hides, but almost invariably the answer is ...”but Horse”
