BREAK IN AT AERO, 100+ JACKETS STOLEN, YOUR EYES AND EARS WANTED

Ken at Aero Leather

Well-Known Member
We had a break in at Aero in the early hours of this morning, Monday 10th July, around 2am at our factory on Huddersfield Street in Galashiels, around 110 new and used Aero jackets, mostly orders waiting to go out today, and some original vintage pieces were stolen.

Among the missing vintage pieces that folk from these parts might hear about are several restored relined USN Jackets, incl a private purchase Star Sports, an AN-J-3 and a 351stBG Type A-2 Artwork on back "Coup De Grace"

We'd greatly appeciate any reposts by members of other forums,

Together with the police, we are looking for any information which may help with their enquiries. If anyone saw anyone suspicious in the local areas, or sees any of our jackets for sale in any unusual places or anything at all that may be of help please contact us on [email protected].

That's not bloody good Ken. Thankfully I'd imagine moving that many specialist jackets won't be an easy task for them. Here's hoping they get found quickly.

I suspect the jackets will end up on sale on market stalls across the UK. After all Aero have been through this theft is a real blow.

There have been other robberies. First American Classics, then at Wested Leather on Sunday 14th May. These all appear to be professional
and similar in style.

Where to fence the jackets? Put them in the back of a transit van, then a ferry at Dover and into Europe.

If these robberies are professional and to order then the question is where next? The most likeliest place is
Eastman Leather (or their pop-up shop). They should beef up their security and keep stock levels low on Sunday night/Monday morning.

This sucks dead toads. I'll keep an eye out. Any Aero jackets for sale from non-standard outlets are going to come under scrutiny after this. Hope it all gets sorted.

Ken, so very sorry to hear about the robbery. Hopefully your insurance will at least cover at least part of your loss. My regards to Lydia.

That's kind of worrying if this is a pattern of knocking over vintage/niche leather jacket makers. Is this a case of stolen to order? And how on earth do they offload them, are they snaffled out of the UK to be sold on the continent, or drip fed via the usual online selling sites?

I hope they nab these bastards quick smart and the jackets can be recovered.

Sad news. My hunch would be to resell them in Asia. Judging by the sheer volume absconded with, however unlikely, could it be linked to a Fedora Lounge member? Just kidding, too soon, not funny, trying to add levity to an awful situation. Forgive me.

We keep eyes and ears open...not only here on the web, but markets, garage sales, shows and other big events.
Reading all the comments here...looks like pros were after it.
So no conventional " diluting" specials.
Nowadays its easy to fly out 200kg of checked in luggage to any place
of the planet...provided you pay the extra "out of the allowance".
No border police in the world checks your leather goods.
But still, "they" may all be arround the corner in some shops and will soon pop up somewhere in the region...slightly " disguised " but spread in the mass.
Ken, Holly, we are with you..

its simple, they get greedy, they get caught. i have apprised my japanese contacts, as well as my chinese contacts. i trust that by now my contacts in europe are well aware of the theft. and, yes, from the volume and m.o., it appears to be pros, or semi pros at work.

Best we can do is to help Ken and Holly with orders..
