just a "refind" when organising the chaos in my mancave:

Ex German Navy "Watch Boots" - those things are heavy as Thor's Hammer and sturdy like concrete - bought them NOS a couple of years ago but These things are getting more and more rare especiall in larger sizes (mines are 11.5)

the plan was to wear them more frequently especially for winter but this year we rarely had temperatures lower than -10° Celsius and i simply forgot i own 'em

definately on the list for next winter

Rash lock down purchase dept. Having bought my Red Wing 877's in November, which are still the finest boots I have ever owned, with my only problem being that they do take a while to lace up! I was therefore unable to resist a used pair of the shorter 875's at a reasonable price. Got them yesterday and am well pleased, they have had a bit of wear but are in good condition and have had a recent resole. Incidentally I also recently got a Red Wing boot care kit and cleaned and treated the 877's. This has darkened them from the fairly bright orange of the Oro Legacy leather to a gorgeous chestnut shade which I am well chuffed with - I did take a picture, but the difference doesn't show up well in a photograph.

so late last night to quell my depression I was perusing leather and boot porn when I decided to get the credit card out. found some cool boots that are a bit like roughouts that were on sale so by next weekend I should be able to give a review and fit pic on what I got. :D
its a great boot to go with wearing an A-2… the Dragon by Taft. (they are having their big spring sale right now)
its a small family business founded in 2013 by Kory and Mallory Stevens in NY, NY so I was happy to support a family owned start up thats doing really well. Taft sells direct to consumer but has a flagship brick and mortar in NYC.

waterproof and waxed suede from the British tannery CF Stead, a well known tannery in Leeds. (the “Dragon” boot is hand cut and stitched in Portugal)
-you can Use Dubbin Wax or equivalent for upkeep.
-sadly no half sizes so they recommend to size down as they tend to run large.
-Goodyear welt! (it makes it a lot easier to resole at any cobbler)
-soft calfskin leather inner lining
$ 349
Sale price:
$ 209.40 free shipping
With tax $228.23

I got their "Rust" color....

Cool looking for sure and with the discount they run about the same price as a pair of repro Roughouts from WWII Impressions.
Taft makes a quality boot , I was checking their stuff out a while back.
Nice!

I own a pair of Service Shoes repros from At The Front (not the rough outs though) and like them enough but they are so clunky. I have them pretty well broken in now but rarely want to put them on as it feels like I'm walking on a hardwood or concrete floor all day and I even put arch support soles inside them. I am hoping these civy fashionista versions with their modern support and full Goodyear welt and flexible ridgeway rubber sole will be a bit easier on my feet and I can wear them longer than my combat boots. and these seem to dress up a bit better for casual wear than WWII army boots. :D

You’re right about the Garrison boots , they are kinda Clunky looking and they remind me of ( I’m really dating myself here) Lil Abner boots) Had a pair but never could get into them.

ya, I wanted to like them but the big round toe looks like clown shoes when little scrawny me wears them! the more pointed shape of these Dragons should be more to my liking. if I was a re-enactor going to events then the service boots would be what I would wear but to go out on the town and (whats this going out on a date with a woman I keep reading about in Penthouse magazine? ) whatnot, I have to wear something more civilian looking.

Very grainy leather. Almost like buffalo. Yeah I can’t get on with the round toe of Service Shoes either. My L.L. Bean/Chippewa Katahdin Ironworks boots have a more streamlined toe, which I prefer.
