I recently acquired these WWII army officers shoes in my size. They are marked inside with an inspection stamp from the Jeffersonville Quartermaster Intermediate Depot (JQMD)
I can only make out the last inspector number 4 and the word …tory (perhaps Victory?)
Brown Shoe Co.

Contract WI9- 074-QM 3222
Complete with the scent of a musty old attic lol!

Well broken in. Fit great and feel comfortable.
I need shoe tree and a nice polish for them

@B-Man2, thanks for the heads up on the Polo suede service boots Burt. Unfortunately, they're not as inexpensive on eBay as they once were.

Based on the auction photos, I thought I'd be receiving the russet "snuff" colored boots, but the ones that were received were a dark brown that look similar to dubbed roughouts. I added a set of waxed laces, but may try finding another set that aren't quite as wide.

Unfortunately the snuff and brown colors are bringing $150 - $180 nowadays. The green boots can still be had for $80 or less though.
I’ve never done this, but I wonder if the green ones could be dubbed and them polished using brown shoe cream, similar to what soldiers did with original rough out boots . I wonder if that might give them the brown color of WWII Rough outs .

Wasn't Clark's the original manufacturer for the 8th Army desert boots?* And I've read that they were the "inspiration" for the US roughout boots.

I had a pair of Clark's once; awful arch support -- especially for *my* flat feet.

*Looks like Clark's ripped off a South African design:

If any of these sources are to be believed.

The build quality was likely miles better than the Clarks we get today. With that said, I think you can get goodyear welted clark desert boots for extra $$
Interesting … In your photo .. are those guys SAS…Royal Marines …. ? Who ?
What a great selling point for Clark’s if they really are Clark boots. This is the first time I’ve ever heard about this, has anyone else heard anything about this?

See my edit link above. Sounds like true Clark's-made desert boots came out after WW2 and were more popular in the U.S. than their home country.

I got the picture from looking on the forum on the 60s and 70s pics. I think they are in what is now Yeman.

@dinomartino1 had posted that pic on this sweet, sweet picture thread https://www.vintageleatherjackets.org/threads/the-raf-in-colour-50s-and-60s.22619/post-233125

"Three airmen from 37 (Field) Squadron, RAF Regiment, each armed with a L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle, man a piquet overlooking the airfield at Thumeir, in the Radfan region of the Federation of Southern Arabia, now Yemen, circa May 1964."
