Lots of RAF fighter pilots (like a lot of fighter pilots all around the world) had/have a huge love of speed.

I have a wonderful photo of Tony Gaze, the Aussie Spitfire ace who went on to become a professional racing driver, wearing his Irvin from the war at the 1953 Monte Carlo.

I'd be great to see that photo! Could you please post it?

Here you go Grant, Tony at the '53 Monte Carlo in his wartime Irvin...

His biography by Stewart Wilson (from which this photo is from) is a terrific read and I highly recommend it...

Snapped just before they noticed they're taking a photo, haha! Wearing the sleeves un-zipped too... What is he eating?

Love going to the racetrack, wish I got to see them back in the 50's and 60's.

Thanks, great photo and what a cool way to rock an Irvin!

Pleased you enjoyed it Grant!

If you get the chance grab a copy of Tony's biography as it's a cracking read, hugely successful Spit pilot (double ace including two Jerry jets) and one hell of a racing career.

One of Oz's least known heroes who deserves a lot more recognition.
