AVI LTHR Bronco updated 2019 version

The Bronco jacket he has for sale has been improved a few times but is still way off the mark for someone who copied an original . The leather looks so much like a G1 jacket and is the wrong color

I think Dmitry hit the nail on the head that 5 Star have probably overtaken AVI now in this price bracket but in fairness to AVI, the leather on my goatskin Bronco is absolutely nothing like the goatskin on a G-1 either in look nor feel.

Maybe you had a newer one Jeff which was like that but the goatskin on the Bronco which I purchased in July 2018 is nothing like that on a G-1.

I think that's the reason for the move to China. I think they've become frustrated with the Pakistan guys not being able to make a better copy. My latest AVI Bronco is my favourite so far, but ironically its the least accurate 'Bronco'. Its a great generic everyday wearer. I recall there was a thread a while back about Chinese repros, and they looked pretty good. I don't think anyone actually bought one though. It will be interesting to see if they do end up producing another repro, how these will compare to the likes of Platon's jacket.

My 2019 AVI A-2's goat is very different to my AVI G-1. Thinner, lighter, drapes differently and is very comfortable. There was a previous batch that was thicker and quite robust...
To be honest though, with Platon's Dubow being what it is, its going to be hard to beat. Still, more makers getting stuck in the better.

My statement about the leather looking like the G1 is just that it's the grain type and the color not the thickness .To me owning AVI A2 an G1 you have 2 jackets with very similar type leathers just different patterns ,BORING . At least AVI should copy the color of the original Bronco.

My AVI Bronco is nowhere near the colour of a G-1. I got my one in their seal which is actually a mid chocolate brown and very like you see on originals. In terms of grain and finish it's not like what you get on a G-1.

Like I said earlier, maybe they've changed but my Bronco isn't like what you're describing especially this idea of leather similarity to a G-1. I'm pretty sure Dmitry's Bronco which is a similar vintage to mine is also unlike this as well so maybe it's their newer jackets which display this.

It could be that they’re a bit garmento over there...that would explain the detail choices as well as the slender sizing...

Yes, exactly Tim. My jacket is the first AVI's Bronco version. After zipper replaced, a pretty good jacket for the money. Leather and colour not as on G-1 jackets.

I think yours and mine are made from the same leather Dmitry as mine looks to be exactly the same shade of chocolate brown as yours.

Looks great my friend, you should wear it more often!

Thanks.Yes, you are probably right. This pic from last year. Moreover, I have a project for patching it, before I had no time for it, maybe now I'll have it.

I had one like that, the one I aged a bit. I sold it to a RAF pilot earlier this year. That jacket is closer to the Bronco pattern than the one I currently have. This one is also a bit darker, more browny colour... its very much like the Bronco at the Air Force museum in Hendon. It may not be very accurate for a Bronco, but I love the feel and drape and comfort of it.

Well said ....I for one would never want to see a new maker shut down his tent and leave. As I mentioned ,I have not experienced any issues with my 1st generation AVI Bronco . The only thing I didn’t like about those first Russet jackets was the orange color, but I was able to sort that out with a minor amount of effort. The jacket looks good now as you can see below.

One suggestion that comes to mind would be to replace the zip puller that they are currently using. I don’t know if anyone else has experienced this,@ but the puller flops over and gets locked out of position occasionally making it difficult to unlock. AVI could fix that minor flaw in a heartbeat by reducing the amount of play in the attachment end of the puller.

This is the issue....
That’s all I’ve got!!
Hope AVI is listening.
Cheers

Hi Stu
The color of the first run of the Russett goatskin A2’s from AVI were not to my liking as they seemed a bit orange colored . I wouldn’t recommend to anyone what I did, as I’m not a knowledgeable leather guy , but I experimented with the jacket by taking brown Saphir Boot Cream and applying light coats of it on the surface of the jacket until I toned down the orange color. When I got an acceptable color I buffed it out and then put a very light coat of Pecards brown leather dressing over it . That did the job and the jacket looked great . However , like I said , it worked for me but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone as I’m not a leather specialist .
