AVI LTHR BRONCO A-2 Jacket Review & Pics

Yes, interesting indeed. I mean it doesn't look fantastic, not much like a real W&G M442... but or what he paid... Beat the 'ell out of it.

Just wanted to post a couple of updated photos of my AVI Russett Bronco. If you remember, I wasn’t really happy with the orange tone of the Russett Goatskin AVI used in the production of their A2 Bronco. Thru a lengthy process and several applications of various leather products, I’ve been able to darken the hide to what I think is a pretty nice shade of Russett goatskin . I will assure all of you, this is the last time you will have to look at this jacket but thanks for looking!;)

That looks really nice! Job well done. The hide oozes character.
I would email AVI and ask for the bits... For some reason the russet version was not as 'hardwared-up' as the seal version... Maybe they can send you the correct snaps and zipper etc.
Apparently future jackets will be made with a newly sourced veg-tanned goat, and the russet is apparently going to be a bit darker, matched exactly to their original Perry.

Hello to everyone,

After a long selection of what will be my first A2 jacket (thanks to Brettafett for help with sizing), hours spent reading all the forums I found out there was AVI on sale going on on eBay. So I went for their old version of seal leather Bronco. I must say I was really happy with the purchase, which was almost half the price from the website. The only thing I didn't quite like was the color which to me appeared to be more chocolate brown (exactly as Brettafett wrote here) and under some light the jacket appears to have even purple shades. But I can live with that since I did like the rest a lot.

Now I own the jacket for more than three weeks and I try to wear it as much as possible. The knits seem to get worse pretty fast that's one thing I did not expect, but there's other thing I would like to discuss with you. Some weird scratches appeared on the jacket, even though the jacket was never missused, I was not rolling on rocks or anything like that. Just normal wear. My GF even thinks that it's not real leather, and I never thought the leather jacket is supposed to age like this? It seems a bit like a layer of color peels off. What do you think?

I think it's probably just one of those top coats that is designed to wear quickly to develop patina. Some of BK's leathers do/have done this along with some other makers offerings. These fast wearing leathers have become a bit of a thing of late with guys wanting their jackets to look like a 75 year old original in double quick time. I had a look at my AVI and there's a few places where the top coat is wearing through or been nicked off in places where it's been rubbed against or scraped. There's others where it's burnishing down to lighter notes too. Don't worry about it, just wear the thing. The more you wear it and get consistent wear over the whole thing, the better it will look.

I just received mine and I am somewhat not so impressed with the leather and color. Ironically, mine is too brown for a russet. I was expecting a redder/oranger hue. The leather also feels rather thin and supple, not what I am used to with horsehide. So I don't know. I guess I'm gonna ship it back.

If you’re really wanting a Bronco can recommend Headwind’s version. But it’s a true chocolate brown.

The first production run of their goat .., this one .. the goat was thicker and heavier. More so than originals .. that’s probably why this one is thinner.
Would you mind posting some photos of it ? Would like to see what the color and hide look like now .

Here are some pictures. The AVI Leather jacket is somewhat photogenic, I have to say, but less saturated IRL. It falls between chocolate and russet, but not in the best way IMHO. It's a matter of taste, I admit it. I also attached a picture of another jacket that's louder for sure, but with more character, for comparison.
While I am not an expert, I do own several jackets in horsehide and while they do have different thickness, they all have something stiffer in their texture. Not calling AVI Leather liars or anything of that sort, but this thin super supple not so shiny -in real life- leather really doesn't impress me. My wife said it looks like cheap handbags leather -can't argue with that, I am not an expert-. All that said, the fit and the cut are really nice!
AVI Leather also forgot an item I bought along with this jacket, and while they responded 6 hours after my message concerning the matter, they still didn't address any reason nor solution to this issue. I also want to add that while the jacket was marked as "in stock" I received a message stating it would take 2 weeks until the jacket would ship. I'm patient and understanding so I'm ok with the wait as long as I am informed and I don't wanna judge them from a first experience, but yeah, I'm not really happy with the journey so far.

That's because AVI only sells jackets made to order with the exception of some test sample jackets. I don't know why they claim jackets "in stock" when it's not the truth, think the stuff sells better this way.
You place an order, and AVI drops a message to their manufacturer in Pakistan or India and two weeks later your jacket ships out from there usually.
Btw I'm also not so impressed with their latest leathers; thin, boringly characterless and off colored.

Ah that makes sense! Thanks for the information.
I hold no grudges for the delay between the order and the delivery (plus, it was less than the aforementioned 2 weeks of wait), but it'd be nice to have more transparency on their website. Now I'm not so sure if it was written "IN STOCK" but since it wasn't written "out of stock", or anything I probably assumed it was in stock.
But yeah, the main issue for me now is the underwhelming leather and its color, and (now) their sporadic messaging. I hope they'll answer my refund request within the next 14 days. (I am ordering some jackets from Crush on Retro, a Chinese retailer, and the communication is fantastic!)
