37J1 goes Western

Bigger guys into cloth Navy jackets please note: BuAer Style 37J1 is now being made in Western sizes at popular prices.

In recent years, this preWW2 jacket was reproed only for the Asian and high fashion markets. Now Cockpit in the US and Silvermans in the UK are offering them.

Yes, they've been messed with for marketing's sake. The Cockpit jackets have camouflage liners (yuk), bigger pockets like their A-2s, and extra low collars for an MA-1/café racer look.

Silvermans' is cut better, but it's made of 17 oz canvas to give it a workwear feel. (It's also available without stenciling. Cockpit's are not.)

So, not top grade replicas, but any is a better bet than the old Willis & Geiger "NA-1" with its ultralight cord fabric, floppy collar and extra high storm flap. If you want more authenticity - be smaller!

Anyone in the UK thinking of buying one from Silvermans and going in person to their shop then best go by public transport as there's literally nowhere you can park! Good store and worth a visit.
