No thrifts open? No problem!

I saw this jacket listed online extremely vaguely for $3. Yes $3 (plus $11 shipping). I asked a few questions, but then thought "what the heck are you doing? JUST BUY IT!"

It arrived today. Looks to be a fairly clean 1963/64 Ralph Edwards G-1. Mouton collar and lining look great! Replacement zipper (YKK gack!) and arm knits, but I'm not complaining!

All in all, a BEAST of a jacket!

I'm watching Top Gun tonight! "I feel the need... The need, for speed!"

Super boring topic. I decided to just leave well enough alone and keep the YKK zipper on this G1. It doesn't look horrible and it's already on there!

Question, what's the usual width of leather puller to use on the zipper? I figure that should be enough to mask the shame of the incorrect zipper

Will this work with a YKK zip. The hole is about 3/4" wide

It's not to hard to change the zip pull if you want something thats look better, have look on the back of the YKK zip and there will be a number which indicates the zipper size.
You can put on a wire puller on if its the same size or something else if yours is a different zipper size.
Just remove the the keeper on the top of the zip tape with pliers and slide on the new puller.

May be better ones around than this but for reference these are on ebay.

Thanks! I saw the paper clip puller too. The current zipper is a brass #10 YKK made in USA, I believe. I'm assuming 1970s? It's built like a tank. The original 3 stripe Talon on my original Star Sportswear A2 is much more delicate by comparison.

For some ungodly reason, YKK does make brass wire pullers, but not in #10.
