ELMC x John Lofgren TANKER boots

Just got a pair of Tanker boots from ELMC, made by John Lofgren in black CXL horse. They’re beauties!

I got the size 9, as they are UK sizes and I’m a 10 US. They do still feel a little loose, even though my big toe goes almost all the way to the front — is say I’ve got an inch to spare — and there is zero heel-slip. Maybe I’ve just gotten too used to Iron Rangers and I want new shoes to be painful for the first two to three weeks? Or maybe I could size down to an 8.5. I will probably try that.

They are absolutely gorgeous, as you’d expect from John Lofgren. The fit and finish is faultless. If anything, they’re too well done. I expect engineer boots to have a PNW standard — a loose thread here, a nail sticking out there, welts not entirely finished.

I got them because my engineer boots (Wesco x S&S Knuckle Draggers) were almost too tight to get on at first, and even more difficult to get off. Then they stretched out to the point where I can kick them off and heel-slip is a legitimate tripping hazard. These are of course strapped-on Tanker-boot style, with nice, little black buckles.

I just don’t know if I’ll ever use them to ride a bike, they may be too pretty to scratch up. But I’m looking forward to wearing them enough to show the golden-brown teacore. Apparently this leather does that quickly and well!

Very nice. How do you plan to break them in ?
One way to accelerate the process is to wear them in the shower and then wear them as much as possible while letting them dry on your feet naturally. When you take them off open them up as much as possible to let them air dry. Never by a heater!
I know it sounds a little crazy but it works.
congrats on your new boots!

I'm like that for about a week, then i care slightly less as time goes by.

Today is my first day of wearing them and they squeak so loud I was worried I would wake the wife (who would castrate me if she knew what I paid). They are at least ass loud as ski boots, when the leather of the uppers and the lining rub together. Really. fcking. annoying.
