Beard or no beard.... ( uuups touchy... I know...)

No beard... but then again, no hair... the few times I've grown a beard, I've realized how much I dislike the "feeling" (and look) of my own facial hair. Long beards are very popular here these days though, seems like half the young male population could have been an extra on either Vikings or Game of Thrones...

I would grow a beard if I could but I can't - 46 years old and it looks like I have sparse pubic hair glued to my face if I try to grow a beard. Apparently it's hormonal. It'd be handy in winter.

I'm not a re-enactor but have a function this year to dress 1940's so recently bought a crusher so with my GW A2 and other gear I can attend dressed for the part, however, I grew a beard 5 months ago and must say it just don't look right when said attire is worn! But Spring is in the air here in London so the beard is going, too much faffing about and not easy to keep tidy, I do feel it looks scruffy and ages you with the grey bits! Much easier just to clean shave.

On Airport Immigration in many Asian countries especially Korea, ( long ) bearded young people get much more ( discriminating) attention than clean shaved ones... my 1 cent observation ...

I’ve had beards, or a goatee for decades, don’t really care if it’s period correct for the jacket. However... if you have an A-2 contract with a collar stand, the collar hook is lifted to the perfect point to snag your beard, can be really painful.

Hahaha, indeed, I can't count the number of times some of my beard hais got caught between the collar snaps and the lining of my A-2...

That's a very light coloured lining in that A2 Geoff and leather looks a really dark seal, almost black on my screen, or is it the lighting?

That pic gives a poor representation - definitely a mix of inappropriate lighting and the limitations of my Samsung Grand Prime to capture true colour. I took that pic on a train with the sun blazing through the window, so very poor. The jacket is my Aero 38-1711-P - leather colour dark seal, lining colour mustard, knits rust. Below is a pic which probably shows you the closest to the true colour of my jacket my phone is capable of in soft daylight, taken against a background of a light cream coloured cushion. Even now it's not perfect. In reality the dark seal is quite dark though, and when I watch the old colour footage of 1940s documentary films with the lads wearing A2s the dark colour/shade does seem to be what they were wearing.

I'm in the clear then as I'm not young and have no intention of travelling to any Asian countries. Albion is good enough for this beardy old fart

The only resemblance of a beard I've ever had was on an eight day fishing trip on a boat in Mexico....lol.

That said, have received many compliments on photos I took then; not so many now. :)

Beards just happen to be 'trendy' at the mo, there everywhere on young and older guys alike hence the rise of products like beard oil and 'grooming kits' with nostalgic names and expensive pricing! To each his own, I just think they take a lot of effort personally and with the warmest Feb day recorded here in London at 20c today I can't imagine keeping mine if we get a summer like last year. To that end I wouldn't be wearing an A2 either but again, to each his own although very stylish when combined I must say, even if not period correct!!

I've had beards or some form of facial hair on and off since I was in my teens, a proper thick beard not an Ed Sheeran type affair. Beards were beards back then and there was 0 trendiness about them.
I've also had lengthy periods of being clean shaven so I know of what I speak.
Beards are indeed warm in winter but I really do not find much difference in the summer heat, in fact the whiskers tend to shield the face from the sun.
I rather relish still being able to grow a full set of whiskers, as most of the hair on my head disappeared years ago!:D

Sadly, my beard growing abilities are pretty pathetic! I can skip shaving for well over a week and you'd barely notice any difference.

I count my lucky stars that only thing I can complain about is that the hair on my head grows too fast and too thick!
