I don't understand why some people think's that we will be competition for them, In Fact all of us are meeting the growing demands, there are many people who want to make a purchase of a leather jacket but can't buy due to lack of sufficient money, Is it the world of Richer people only and not for poors... I can high my price as much as I wish... But I felt happy when someone say that we are providing the value of their money...

Answer to some person's who want to know why we are cost effective:

The three-day Eidul-Azha has given a boost to the leather industry as 8.2 million sacrificial animals were slaughtered during the three days including 3 million cows, 5 million goats and sheep and almost 100,000 camels. The industry is said to have collected a total of about 8 million hides and skins worth Rs 6.54 billion so far.

According to Pakistan Tanners Association sources the leather industry has been geared up to meet the challenges of its peak season of the year as over 1,000 tanneries of all shapes and sizes across the country, are busy to tan the raw skins into highly valuable tanned leather which earns Pakistan substantial foreign exchange earnings from export

They say that Eidul-Azha contributes more than 20 percent to the total industrial need of the country's leather sector. It generates economic activity of around Rs 242 billion in the rural sector including Rs 234 billion through animal sales and Rs 6.54 billion through purchases of hides and Rs 2.6 billion through allied industries.

According to one survey, 62 percent households in Lahore offered Qurbani while only 37 percent households in Karachi did so. Hides market dealers said that there are three major hide markets in the country including Lahore, Multan and Kasur where hide business continued during Eid days. They said that trend of slaughtering big animal, cows and calves was on rise due to high prices of goats and sheep

Conclusion: This Business of Leather In Pakistan is directly linked with the Eid Festival, we must have to consume this leather every year before Eid, Because if we failed to export the previous leather industry will automatically filled with more hides whether we sold them or not... That's the reason Pakistani Leather Garments are very Competitive in Price and all the Big Brands of the world ordered them in Millions of garments.

I am not entitled to harm any of our colleague who thinks that I am their competitor.. and who are again and again trying to prove us as unethical.. We are just feeding our labour and people associated with us.. We don't wish the large houses.. large swimming Pools or whatever the human wants are.. If we can respectfully fulfills our necessities its enough for us..

Lastly for the people who complained us for quality.. We have 27 Years of history in leather and leather garments manufacturing.. During this time period we got the opportunity to work for one of the worlds big Brands like H&M, & Zara etc.. Their quality Control's are strict.. Some brands are so strict that they count the number of stitches per inch according to their requirements and we fulfill them, during this very strict polishing to our skills we are capable to meet any world standard production..

Damn well-stated Shawn! I am grateful for the cost and great quality of the jackets I've purchased from you. I used to have the money to purchase expensive custom jackets, but circumstances have humbled me into a 'less complicated' existence financially these days. 5-Star allows me the ability to purchase a well-constructed, made-to-measure leather jacket with all of the service and perks I used to receive from more prominent (expensive) jacket-meisters at prices I can afford.

Hell, I've received more 'real-world' compliments from my friends and family about the 'Leather Windbreaker' repro I recently received and wore all weekend, than my other expensive custom jackets. I must say that you guys knocked it out-of-the-park on that one. Damn fine jacket made from VERY substantial 1.2mm goat. I wouldn't be afraid to wear it against road-rash if going down on a motorcycle..

You might have a point regarding "unregulated pollution". We could possibly assume that environmental regulations in Pakistan are less strict than in the EU or the US. At least when it comes to sectors like tanning, chemical products etc.

Are we the holy land of ecology? Probably not, see diesel gate in Germany, fracking or climate change denial in the US. We have a tendency to compare our standards and expect third world or developing countries to achieve their growth without making our mistakes .. But anyway, yes I must admit that I share these concerns.

Mentioning good conscience. I actually have that when ordering a Fivestar... It might not be the nicest thing to say but with the political situation in Pakistan, I am happy for everyone working in clothing production and making enough money to support himself. The alternative could easily be being easy bait for radical ideology... In short, when somebody sews an A-2, he has probably no intention to build IEDs instead.

Regarding the G-1, my personal opinion is that this is the best jacket from FiveStar that I have seen so far. Are there better jackets out there? Sure!

Are there better makers? Of course!
But keep in mind where we started some months ago... When the first A-2 pictures of FiveStar's jackets came up, we were comparing them to AVI.... And decided that AVI jackets had a better quality and overall appearance.

Now, some jackets later, the discussion turned into "Oh, their nice but not great craftsmanship like X or Y, and not a great maker anyway..." Seems as if the bar for Shawn's jackets gets constantly raised... Which is OK, as he seems to work his way up the quality - detail - authenticity - ladder with every jacket he is making for members here.

Maybe other makers didn't start as "great makers" as well?

As far as I see it, the learning curve is quite good, especially if you keep in mind that FiveStar's core business was and is making cheapest mall jackets that sometimes are not even made from leather.... If Shawn has the chance to find a niche for better quality jackets (in all possible aspects I did mention above), I will have no issues buying from him.

I finally ended up ordering a G-1 spec. 55J14 in size 46 from Five Star. I received it and was very pleased on the construction, and quality of the Reddish Brown goatskin. However, that's where the "happiness" ceased. In the 5 days I have had the jacket (as per photo below) the jacket reeks with such horrible (really bad) odor that the wife ask me to remove it from the home. It smells so bad we cannot enjoy a meal, or sleep, or just stay in the home. So, I went on the internet to find how to remove odors from goatskin leather. Most advise to use baking soda, or dish liquid and white vinegar and wash the leather down. I have don that and the jacket still has the odor. When I washed the leather with the Dawn dish soap and vinegar the towel shows what came off the leather as per the pictures below. I may end up just trashing this $183.00 smelly jacket. Beware when you buy a leather jacket from a foreign country.

Do you mean the chrome tanning smell typical with new leather which will go away in time or something else?

During my searches on how to remove odor from goatskin (and other leathers), I have found that in countries...Morocco, Pakistan, before tanning is done they take the leather and soak it in Camel urine days before tanning. This may be one of those jackets.

I'm going to try one other solution. Buy couple cans of Dr. School's Odor Destroyers spray powder and soak the jacket with it and put it in a trash bad and seal it for about two weeks. That was a suggestion from a leather jacket user.

Human urine was extensively used in tanning at one time and may still be in some places. In Roman cities public urinals were located on top of pits where hides were being processed.

If the weather is right (no rain, windy, maybe sunshine) hang it outside. Got a garden shed? Leave it there for some days... If it gets better, let it there some more days.

If it doesn't work, well, then it's time for the stuff mentioned above....

Well we already have some 5* buyers on the forum - any similar experience?

My two A-2 jackets smell like, well...leather.

The only jacket with a stronger odor was my father's A-1...stronger, but still leather. After some wear, combined with hanging the jacket out on the balcony it became less.

If you would take the 55J14 I bought from Five Star, and put it in a 16 x 24 family room, you would get the odor like no other odor....not a new leather smell, but, one that will give you a headache within half hour. So, I have taken the jacket out to my 30' x 30' detached garage and hung it up to a ceiling light. I've had recently a mouse or two hide in there, and I bet this sends them packing elsewhere.
