FIVESTAR LEATHER A2 JACKET

I really find much of the reaction here amusing.. 5-Star is only charging LESS than $150.00 USD for true MADE-TO-MEASURE goatskin (as well as other leather types) jackets with pretty much UNLIMITED CUSTOMIZATION'S... For those here who have deep-pockets, and are true top-end jacket affectionados, THESE ARE PROBABLY NOT FOR YOU.. For those expecting 5-Star to start producing highly detailed, period-correct, original maker A-2's for the low prices charged, IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

For the VERY low prices, it doesn't get much better than these jackets for folks who actually may struggle to eek out a monthly existence, and aren't expecting an extremely-detailed jacket made from the best hides. These are definitely NOT anything like the cheap, multi-piece, leather patchwork jackets seen at flea markets years ago.. These have the quality of single-piece backs / two piece sleeves depending upon the pattern, 100% cotton linings if requested, etc...FAR better quality than many mall jackets out there which cost a lot more $$.

Also, last time I checked, this is NOT the Vintage Leather MILITARY Jacket Forum.. I enjoy MANY different vintage-style jacket patterns from the 30's-mid 50's, and so far, 5-Star Leather is the only company out there who can offer me a true, made-to-measure vintage-styled leather jacket, with practically any tweak I can think of for less than $150.00 USD. I'm of course NOT expecting GW or Eastman quality for the $$, and highly appreciate the level of service that 5-Star offers, as well as neat construction, good stitching, and decent overall quality for so little of a cost.. One gets the same type of customer service and attention to their order as the upper-tier jacket makers offer.. Hell, I even receive production pics of my jackets as they're being made..

With Thanks

Shawn,

You're a clever guy coming on this forum for feedback. There are some incredibly knowledgeable people here who will give you amazing advice, so it's good to have you here!

If you can nail down some of the finer details on your jackets - knits, reproduction label - then they'll be a bargain and I'll certainly consider ordering one.

Technonut raises a very good point. For some of us here, there's no such thing as "authenticity" unless it's 110%. But in reality, a knowledgeable maker can get to a generic standard of accuracy, in look, fit and feel, without breaking the bank.

If you're saying, "That's not how a Bronco goes," you're in a higher end market. If you say, "That's not a WW2 type of cuff knit," or "That's not how a collar stand is done," that is legit.

Thats what I was alluding to upstairs. Drop the Bronco... The design, label etc... If you are not making a Bronco clone (or other original maker A-2), then don't.
And focus on a Five Star House model. Take all the best bits, all the advice and recommendations from enthusiasts, and make a really good 'Five Star' A-2 jacket. Correct bits, correct hardware, in the correct places, with a generic label (designed to appear like those from WW2). Seamless knit and decent repro Zipper...
Even the top guys like ELC and Aero have a generic house model. Nothing wrong with those. Its a good idea, esp at a lower price point.

5-Star (AKA FeshoWear), more than likely sells 100's of their A-2 style jackets a month (IIRC, their factory has the capacity to produce well over 1000 jackets a month) to many folks who are genuinely more satisfied with theirs, than most of the other multi-pieced back / sleeve monstrosities being sold for similar low prices out there. It's all about the customization's and tweaks with these jackets IMO. One can see the A-2 patterns currently being used. From here, the best approach IMO is deciding exactly which customization's / tweaks it would take to make one happy with it, and then ask for them before placing an order. It is important to note that made-to-measure / custom orders are NOT returnable. I've had 3 jackets made by them to date, with yet another on the way. All three were precisely made to the measurements I provided, and fit as such.

I plan on ordering an A-2 from them sometime in the future, but I was initially more caught-up in the luxury of purchasing made-to-measure A-1 style button-up jackets for such a low cost. As posted before, I'm REALLY impressed with the 'Waldo Pepper' jacket recently made for me, as well as their A-1. (Seriously, how many other manufacturers would be willing to do a complete pocket redesign to an existing pattern for NO additional cost, especially when charging so little for the jacket to begin with?? ) I also can't wait to see their rendition of the zippered vintage Field & Stream 'Leather Windbreaker' made from some 1.2mm goat which should be arriving within the next couple of days.. I've noticed that most of the production pics I've received do these jackets no justice compared to how nice they look in 'real life', as my pics wearing the ones I have clearly show.

If one accepts these jackets for what they are, and works within the least amount of customization's / tweaks possible to make them happy with the details received, 5-Star is a great choice for budget-conscious folks looking for a well-constructed, made-to-measure, vintage-style leather jacket.

EDIT: As one who used to be a person of means, but now has an entirely different lifestyle, I GREATLY appreciate the ability to place an order for a custom made-to-measure, vintage-styled leather jacket for under $150.00 USD, AND get to choose the lining material / color, knit color, type of hide, type of buttons / zippers, etc..... Not to mention also having a jacket patterned from scratch by sending over some pics of the vintage original, and getting that service included in the $140.00 cost of the jacket (even less $$ when discounted for a miscommunication). I've been having a fantastic time just working within the limits of what 5-star offers me....... To top it all off, in most cases the jackets have arrived at my door within ONE WEEK of placing an order, regardless of the customization's requested. The most recent jacket, patterned from scratch, understandably took a couple of days longer to be shipped.

EDIT: For the benefit of those who may happen across this thread, and haven't seen the A-1 and 'Waldo Pepper' jackets 5-Star made for me mentioned above, here they are:

Just a 'heads-up'.... For those who may be contemplating a jacket from 5-Star, I just received the Field & Stream 'Leather Windbreaker' made for me from some pics I sent, and DAMN!! I requested 1.2mm goatskin, and was VERY pleased to find it quite substantial.... a bit stiff, but yet supple. The grain is sweet throughout. I can see it needing some break-in time. PERFECT for an A-2, G-1, M422-A, etc.. I will definitely be looking for some of the 1.2mm in russet when I finally get around to ordering an A-2 from them.

I'll be posting pics of the 'Leather Windbreaker' in the 'What Jacket(s) Are You Wearing At The Moment' thread within the next couple of days.

Looking forward to seeing it Techno.
Don’t forget some fit pixs please;)

Sure thing... :) As for the fit, this jacket is just like the others which were made-to-measure from them... Bang-On to my requested measurements, and fits like a glove. ;) I turned-down my heat, and have been wearing it around the house since it arrived. I may just sleep in it tonight to get a head-start on the break-in. I wanted something a little different, and have been looking for a jacket like the vintage Field & Stream 'Leather Windbreaker' for a few years now. Since one in my size hasn't been available on eBay, ETSY, etc., this one will do quite nicely...

Dear @Technonut2112 we also introduced the Original horn Buttons which will be available for your next orders

Nice Shawn.... :) I wish I could of had them on my A-1 and Waldo Pepper. :( I'm planning on having a set of 20mm horn buttons with bone backers installed at some point, but I have just been enjoying the jackets as they are for now. However, I have been thinking about getting another A-1 with a few customization's in the 1.2mm goat. I'll be in touch when I'm ready for it...

EDIT: BTW Shawn, REALLY good work on the Field & Stream 'Leather Windbreaker'.. :) Definitely close to the original's pics, except for the addition of a full-length interior wind-flap, which due to no available pics inside to go by was a clever addition, although whoever stitched the jacket made the trim over the zipper nice, tight, and wind-resistant in it's own right. I didn't think I would like it, but strangely I do, and appreciate the concept of the jacket REALLY being a 'leather windbreaker'.. Overall, it certainly has a vintage aviation / motorcycling flair that I like.

I was a bit disappointed that the nice vintage Talon zipper repro was installed with a left-hand pull, instead of the proper right-hand for menswear here in the States, as well as the G-1 style inside pocket being installed on the right-hand side, which makes it a bit annoying being right-handed, since I assumed that it would be placed on the left, like issued G-1's.. I DO appreciate your generous discount over the already unbelievable low price however, and will gladly live with the minor inconveniences since the jacket looks great, and is so well-constructed, especially in the 1.2mm goat.. ;)

I'm bringing this up to show folks who may be interested in ordering a customized jacket the importance of communication, and NOT assuming anything. Make sure that EVERYTHING which is important to you is requested, and acknowledged before the jacket is made..

EDIT: The Field & Stream (Gordon & Ferguson) 'Leather Windbreaker' is also much like this 1950's McGregor in what I assume is lamb. I was interested in this one on eBay at a lower offer price until someone bought-it-now for a lofty $299.00 USD (upon examination, 5-Star did a MUCH better job with the tighter zipper trim. The wind would whistle right through this McGregor) :

It might be smart to offer the option of left or right slider zippers / left or right inner pockets.

As a left hander I find a right hand pocket convenient, but I am used to the right hand zipper slider!

I just now realized the same zipper dilemma with a size 44 Bronson B-10 ordered today.. I had almost forgotten that my old size 42 indeed had a left-hand zip pull. I went back to look, and it appears that Bronson followed suit for their 2018 run. I've been waiting for the 44's to be stocked for around a year now, and didn't even look before pulling the trigger. Nice Talon zip repros just like 5-Star used on my Field & Stream rendition (original jacket actually manufactured by Gordon & Ferguson BTW)... Oh well, what can one do? I REALLY like the overall quality of the Bronson, and have grown too impatient to wait any longer on a size 44 Bob Dong B-10, although at least they have the zipper correctly installed for a U.S. military jacket...

Bronson is obviously not looking on N America as a market, more a place to dump unsold product.
