Tim, I could not have said any of that better myself!
It's for those exact reasons that, as a BoB collector, I restrained myself from purchasing an Irvin for so long. They just look so damn good though (which reinforces your point of why photographer's loved getting pilots to wear them for...
You can see the outline in the photos on where the original silk label would have been tack-stitched in.
My friend who I purchased it from had owned the Irvin for around 30 years. He used to wear it occasionally, and sadly the silk label disintegrated. I imagine at the time he was not...
Thank you for the lovely feedback everyone. It is a very well preserved example and fits in well with my Battle of Britain collection.
I only posted the first two photos in the original post to save space, but if you follow the link there are a plethora of photos there! I am happy to take more...
Hi all,
I thought you might be interested in reading my latest website blog on my new purchase: an original pre-war RAF Irvin Flying Jacket made by Links. The Irvin dates from 1938-9...
Hi all,
Just a note that my website will be having its debut update this evening at 20:00 hrs (8pm UK Time).
The update will be relatively modest in size, but there are some juicy items, particularly for Battle of Britain collectors.

Hopefully it goes...
One of my projects as we go into the summer will be a brand-new section dedicated entirely to the Battle of Britain.
I am working with a very well-known dealer friend, and some other collector friends, to put it together.
Hopefully it will be quite impressive when it is complete!
Hi Tim, I always love items like that. One of my most prized items in my collection consists of an original 72 squadron patch owned by a BoB veteran.
I will send you a PM.
Thank you for the lovely feedback guys. I thought it would be a very low-key affair, but I've had a great response to the website.
Hopefully I can keep it lively with interesting content.
Hi All,
Firstly, I do hope I have posted this in the correct location. Please move the thread if I haven't.
I just wanted to give you all a heads up about my new website I have recently launched: RAF MILITARIA

Throughout the Covid Pandemic I found myself spending...
Is there a knack to browsing/purchasing from Yahoo Japan? I've had a look before and never been able to get to grips with it! I'm a 38 and looking for a seal/red knit combo A2. I'd love any advice as I've been told before that there can be some steals on these Japanese websites in my size range.
Here is my modest entry.
I have had this jacket in my collection for over a year now. I purchased this directly from Gary Eastman, and it still had some of his vintage business cards in one of the pockets from when he was trading at Airshows in the 80s! It fits me very nicely, and I'm a fairly...
I have. Duxford have one in their museum as part of an interactive display for their new BoB experience.
You get what you pay for. They look alright from a distance, but they feel cheap and they are no where near as close to an original as a Sefton repro.
I would always recommend saving up...
