Cwu sizing question

This one is pretty simple, I have trouble understanding the perfect sizing I should take for a cwu 36/p. I found a few great deals on eBay for some "proper" cwu36/p jackets and a few "creative"... But no one lists the measurements... And when I write to sellers, rarely get an answer. For a 6'2 tall guy, around 190 pounds what should be best? Large or xl? Medium us definitely too small, but I don't want to accidentally go too big since those jackets are pretty baggy, so it'll definitely look wrong. If anyone has the same body size, let me know what you got :) it would be really appreciated!!

I’m 6’0 and 165 lbs and wear a Medium CWU-45 if that’s any help. It’s not tight not loose, first just nice.
I wear size 42 A-2s and G-1s

That's exactly the anwser I was looking for, thank you, I just needed some sort of reference. Do you think the maker of the jacket varies a lot or they should be pretty much the same, especially if they are milspec?

6’ and 195, normally wear a 42 jacket. My CWU is a Large.

The XL is more like a 46. I was issued once once and I was swimming in it.

I’m a 46 chest and the XL fits me correctly. Had quite a few contracts go through my hands and found them very similar with Propper maybe a bit more spacey in the shoulder area.

I am 5'11" and 145 lb. I wear size 40 on most jackets and medium on CWU-36Ps and -45Ps. The 36P fits ok with room to layer under. Length-wise, I would not want it to be any shorter though.

I'm a 48(US) jacket, and I wear XXL 48 CWU. The measurements on these are not like other jackets as the pits are way larger than a leather jacket, for example. I had to get a couple to try before I figured them out.
Also, being 6'-4", they are VERY short on me. I'm not altogether comfortable with shorter jackets but CWU are really comfy and decently warm.

Okay I see, how does the large fit you? You think 6'2 would change anything?
Might be a wee bit short in the torso, but that is the style.

I don’t recall “Long” sizes in the CWU.

Thank you for the anwser!! That was my biggest consern as well... But I feel like if I go xl it'll be too baggy :/ also what brand is yours? I see a lot of isratex jackets on great deals... I heard they aren't the best but im so so tempted to get one

I've been reading measurements online and the sleeves seem awfully short... Is that normal? Like even the xl ones have 24 inch sleeves but 33 inch length... Im so confused on which size to get haha

Mine is a Gibraltar. You will want to avoid Istratex.

Yeah, it's a tough jacket unless you already have one to get the numbers with. Measuring sleeves is hard as there is no true shoulder on the jacket, and I think you'll be OK in spite of the numbers.
I can measure the two I have later to see what they are. Been a while so I don't recall off hand...

The actual sizing varies as well. I've got 42-44's that fit me perfectly, I also have a 42-44 that fits near like a 46. I also have at least one 42-44 with too short sleeves for the average 42-44.
The more recent CWU's (the desert tan versions, the green cloth-type versions) seem to have in general slightly longer sleeves than older versions.
6'2" and 190 lbs sounds like between Large and XL for the CWU-36 or 45.

Oh well, we've all been there: just buy one and see how it fits. Trial and error will find you the one.

For what it's worth:

Thank you very much :) I found a deal on a large 09 valley 36/p jacket for around 90$. Will probably buy it, hopefully it fits, if not, I'll give it to a friend or resell it, but I think you're right, I'll need to trial and error this.

Yeah I've contacted a few sellers with large jackets, they all sent me pictures of them wearing the jackets and their measurements.. I think the large might not be too bad

If someone hasn’t suggested it yet let me suggest this, The easiest solution to your sizing problem is to order a size 42 and a size 44 . When they arrive pick the one that fits you the way you like and then return the other for a refund. It eliminates all this discussion and speculation and you’ll get exactly the size you want . of course if you’re buying used originals you can buy both sizes and sell the one that doesn’t fit.
