Looks like one of Burt's. Saw it and thought I'd post it, since we don't see too many of Jay's jackets coming up for sale used. Haven't heard of anyone receiving a jacket from Jay in a dog's age, so this might be a rare opportunity for a person with the right chest circumference.

Oct 2019 paid Headwind Mfg $525 for a jacket. Nearly two years on, Still have not received a thing from him except excuses. ‘Every things ready but the collar/ cuffs what colour thread would you like..?’ etc…bollox.

My last three emails have had NO answer.
I have asked for:-

1/ A jacket ( I don’t care what contract
anymore)

2/ A full refund

times have been tough, now they have been made tougher for my family because of Jay Headwind and the theft of $525.

That's almost two years of excuses. The more I think about it, the more insidious Jay's frequent postings on the board seem: not everyone will see your posts in this thread, just like not everyone saw Burt's posts from March 2020. What everyone does see is Jay popping in, providing informative commentary and pretending to be one of the guys. It convinces them he's a reputable vendor and they get lured in.

I don’t know Burts tale of woe…

There you go, starting at post #47.

If other established members actually read and took note of the experiences of some then they would be much less gushing and a lot more critical of the business practices involved. Now that this is out in the open again perhaps others perhaps with similar experiences will summon up the energy to relate their own experiences for the benefit of all. There really is no point in keeping bad experiences a secret. Praise where praise is due but genuinely poor and devious practices ought to be shared too.

Of course my comments and observations
are general and non specific.

I agree with you Steve . Anyone having similar issues with Headwind and Jay should step up and share those experiences to prevent this sort of thing from ever happening again .

When jay first started out, I put in an order for an a-1 made to my specs. As well as a deposit, I sent him buttons I wanted used for the build. He wrote that the turn around time would be app two weeks. The two weeks came and went, so wrote to him wazzup? Some 3-4 weeks later. Eventually he did answer my email with something like supply issues, but it was taken care of and my jacket would be ready ASAP. More time passed, and I decided to bail, and requested a refund, and the sent buttons returned. Again, time passed, so I emailed jay to let him know that I was going to go through PayPal to open a “goods not received” case. Jay then made the refund, and wrote that the buttons that I had sent to him were sent over seas, and it would be a few weeks before they could be returned. Eventually, they were. My read is that jay operates operates his business (such as it is) OPM, Ie: other people’s money. I imagine this can work if you are fast on your feet, have a liquid supply chain, and don’t mind working 24-7. Many start up restaurants begin this way. However, if all of the parts do not fall into place, it’s game over. I might add, I like to support fledgling home grown businesses dealing with our “hobby”(obsession), as I have with John Chapman, Sean Collins, platon Chaldeous, et al.

Operating with other peoples money has a number of pitfalls, particularly if you don’t have the cash reserves to make good on refunds / reimbursements or to purchase materials and pay for outside labor costs . There are also general guidelines that competent businesses practice such as: depositing advance purchase payments in escrow accounts for the protection of the buyers funds and paying only for those costs related to that particular buyers purchases .
The down side is that all this can go sideways if the monies are used for materials other than those associated with the buyer who placed the order or for private or personal use. I am not saying that’s what has taken place in these instances, but just responding to Victors post regarding the use of other peoples money .

I also ordered and received an A-1 from headwind. It was sent from India. Supposedly Capeskin, the leather was quite plastic like and the Buttons fell of after a month or so. This was a few years ago so things might have changed now. In my naivety I gave it a thumbs up . Had a Tailor resew the buttons and I still have the jacket somewhere.
