Yeah, my ATF roughouts have more of that particle-like base throughout -- more like old-fashioned build (at least here in the U.S.).

I imagine that heal pad helps with some comfort.

Been wearing these bad boys all day to break them in, and like last night I'm pleasantly surprised. Already love them.

Definitely. You can see the stitched welts in the pictures on the previous page. These boots and the period jump boots were all 270° Goodyear welt.

FWIW -- I checked my ATF roughouts and they do have that little leather heel patch -- but it's far from any sort of comfort pad -- just as rock hard as the rest of the insole.

I can't guarantee what materials Mil-Tec is using, or their craftsmanship, but based on the sole thickness and the stitching seen in Smithy's pics I'd say these are GY welted.

An old trick was to piss in traditional leather boots before bed then wear them hard the next day. Disgusting as it might sound to some sensitive 21st century souls it works - Google it if in doubt. I also liberally dose new boots that I don't want to bull to a shine in what was known as Hoopers 1882, now Abbey 1982 leather dressing...

The stuff looks like the contents of a dripping tray [used to love bread n dripping with salt n pepper as a kid] but that's due to the high fat and wax content. It's lovely stuff but a bit heavy for use on refined leather clothing. Ideal for boots though.

Been wearing these a lot since I got them nearly three weeks ago now and they're just getting better and better.

Getting shoe polish other than black or mid brown is a bloody nightmare here but thanks to Amazon UK, I have cordovan, light and mid and dark tan, and yes, brown. I'll be putting all of these to good use on the service shoes when I come off night shifts to give them a bit of character so photos to follow very shortly of my efforts.

Been getting a heap of compliments on these too which never hurts!

Gave these a polish today so thought I'd post an update on these as I've had them about 4 months now. Really loving these boots and they just seem to get better and better.

Thanks Burt. When I polish them I use brown, dark tan, mid tan, cordovan and even some black on the stitching, and toe and heel sections.

Sounds like overkill I know but you can build up some really nice differences in tonality over time Burt plus it's fun to do. I'm pleased with how they're coming along and they've really come along from how they looked when new.
