Nothing to do with jackets, nor even with aviation history...

I just wanted to share with you my enthusiasm : I just received some steam locomotive driver glasses.
The same ones that Jean Gabin wears in the movie "La Bête Humaine".

... yes, I love steam locomotives almost as much as airplanes. :D

I haven't seen "Emperor of the North" in a while, wonder if there were a few of these in scenes.

Even "The Train," yeah -- I brought it up again. And it's not even one of my favorites! :D

Kermit if you have not seen it you need to watch the 1964 film the train, the air raid scene was filmed at the SNCF Gargenville marshalling yard.
This was done by a special arrangement with the French National Railway, which had been seeking to demolish the yard to modernise it but lacked the funds to do so.

Cool goggles, sharp looking actually. I love steam trains. Loads of books on the German Baureihen. And the articulated Big Boy/Challenger.
The goggles shoulda been handed to passengers as well. The ashes expelled are a definite threat to one's eyes.

I used to work at Uxbridge signal box in London, it opened in 1938 and closed in 1987.
The box had a Westinghouse style 'N' power frame and 59 levers.
I was a member of the NUR, The National Union of Railwaymen which no longer exists and my how times have changed in 1945 it had 408,900 members.
Not me in the photo.

Flynny, you never fail to surprise me!

To go from directing trains in drizzly Blighty to ending up in Oz brushing redback webs off your garden furniture (as I know you lot in WA are prone to do ;-) is quite a change. You must pinch yourself sometimes mate! Different life indeed ;)
