VERY reasonable... and you are happy with it? How does it smell?
I’m very happy with it!
It has a certain smell, I can’t describe it. It’s not bad. I don’t know what tanning method do they use.
I have an A-2 from Simmons Bilt – the veg. tanned Blattwerk HH smells wonderful.
I’ve had an AVI A-2 and the goat leather smelled awful and I’ve returned it.
So, the 5* HH smells OK.

not a bad looking A-2 and pretty awesome for the price! I think once you really break it in, its going to look the part!!!! Glad to see this. I really love 5 Star and love my A-1. I think the work that was done on the Dubow A-2 was/is superb with the "Dubow goatskin" they had made special for it. The other A-2 offerings dudrng this time.............not so stellar in my view, big pockets, odd cut/drape, pointed shoulders, etc. but it looks like they are making great strides. All of this takes time and congrats for them doing this at an excellent price point. I'm not sure of the tanning process of this HH? I'm kind of not a fan of it BUT, it DOES look like the quality of hides in vintage color photos. Lots of the WW2 era hide was not so great so really, this repro has a lot going for it. Sounds like I'm being critical of the jacket but not really. its great to see this one.

Some really nice grain on that one, BadMofo, and the color looks gorgeous. What’s your assessment of the leather?
Yes, thanks, mulceber!
I will make fit pictures when the weather will allows it, in natural light.

The leather – I find it a bit oily/waxy, shiny.
The 5* HH is not so thin as one thinks, it’s very flexible and I like it better than the Buffalo (my other 5* A-2), which is, for an A-2, a bit too stiff. It drapes well.
The thickness is not overall the same, it seems… There is an area where the leather appears to be a little bit thicker or maybe only stiffer. That doesn’t bother me. In WW2 they used all pieces of leather available, so why should that matter to me…

That is the accepted norm here, it's obviously preferable for both customer and maker to use the same method.

Thats why I'm a little concerned about the fit when mine comes in. I didn't have a well fitting jacket to go by, so I took my measurements myself. I followed the picture guides on Five star's website, but still. Never had a custom fit clothing before.

My custom sizes came pretty dang close to the standard "large" pattern though, so I'm hoping for the best. I believe the jacket will be here in a few days.

Rest easy … Shawn is excellent at hitting your numbers and if it’s off , you can work things out with him.

Relax. If you used their guide then you will be talking the same language as the maker. As Burt rightly says Shawn will work with you if it needs a tweak here or there.
