Jacket art: opinion

If pressed, I would copy an original.
But if I had a choice, I wouldn't do either.
I think my border-line OCD for authenticity would kill me.
It's like a tattoo; once done, it won't come off save at great expense and potentially damaging the medium permanently.

I have to agree with Wei . Several of us here consider accuracy to detail as an important element of a repro jacket . If you walk a little further down that road, and decided to paint your repro , then you’d want your painted repro jacket to be an accurate representation of a painted original jacket. Just my opinion.

I took a jacket artwork design and created jacket artwork featuring another plane name from the same squadron. So not an exact replica. More a homage to the group.

My wife uses to paint on jackets and most of time, it is asked her to reproduce 100% the original jacket arts.

Her point of view, as an artist, is different: she prefers re-create the original nose art, using the original artwork which inspired ww2 aircraft artists. ...and she's pretty good at it.
Here is a paint she made of the B24 'Hula Wahine II' Aircraft nose art was inspired by Vargas calendar. The jacket is an homage cause, the crew history is very tragic: plane shot down in July 1944, crew bailed out over Germany and 3 members were shot by germans after their capture.

Judging by the results, your wife is very talented, Jerome. That's cracking jacket art there!

Ive been wanting to paint a jacket forever. I want an original design, I already have a couple of my own, still ironing out details.
Just never have the time...
Considered having it professionally done, but no longer know to speak too here in the UK/ EU
Id want it done with enamels as in WWII

Wow, that's impressive!
Do you have any other paintings your wife has done to show us (even on other media)?
Congratulations to her.

I am a graphic designer (CG artist) and I paint a little (very occasionally).
I would love to paint a jacket one day... and I think I would choose to do a replica of an original.
It's a difficult (but interesting) exercise to invent an illustration in the style of the time.
Personally I know I won't wear a painted A-2 jacket. It's a little too flashy for my taste. But I would love to own a jacket that I painted myself.

I'm keeping a close eye on new HH leather A-2s from Fivestar... they are perfect for customizing (authentic enough and priced right).

And there is always an artist on the continent you reside in!

She's about to create a FB page about her leather works, i'll post update here of course. Thanks for your comments.

About 5 stars painting, i think it will need hard treatment before painting.

I paint on jackets myself. Did both ( copies and my own drawing).
Since you ask this question, it means that you are not very sure whether you need this drawing or not and are not fully matured for this.
As long as the owner of the jacket is happy, this is the main thing, the rest is secondary
I don’t think maturity has anything to do with it. I’ve just seen several nifty original works but I also have a design of my own.
