Genuine or not CWU-45/P??

Hi everybody, I'm a new member. I have been searching a genuine new CWU 45/P flight jacket in size M, and I've just found it. The problem is that in the lab of the jacket appears the logo of Valley Apparel, and another thing that doesn't appear in any other genuine usaf cwu 45p jackets. (The image of that is attached). Do anybody knows why? And if is a genuine nomex CWU 45/P.??

Another question, I'm 68-69 inches tall, would fit me better a size M or a size S model. ?Many Thanks!

Hi Eamenos,

Welcome to the forum. A few more pictures of the jacket would help in identifying it (and please, not as attachments, just drag & drop the images directly onto the post when you are writing it). The V.A. logo on the label does not necessarily rule it out as legit, particularly as the label would suggest this being a more recent version of the CWU-45/P.
And how about introducing yourself to the forum by posting something about yourself in the "Members Bio" section? Thanks.

Cheers.

@bazzer is absolutely right, I second everything he said.
How do I put this? There are 2 distinctions, genuine vs. fake, and genuine issue vs. commercial mil-spec.
Simply because a jacket is genuine, does not make it genuine issue.

Allow me to explain. Each 'product' has a product code.
G-1 in size 36: 8415-268-7797
8145: Clothing, Special purpose
268: denotes G-1
7797: Denotes a size 36

For CWU-45/Ps it is: 8415-01-608-XXXX
8415: Clothing, special purpose
01-608: denotes CWU-45/P (poly aramid)
XXXX will denote changes in size

So, for example, a CWU-45/P (in small) will have a product code that says: 8415-01-608-2481
a CWU-45/P (in medium) will have a product code that says: 8415-01-608-2482
a CWU-45/P (in large) oddly has a code that says: 8415-01-608-2484

The point is that those last 4 numbers which denote size will NOT change in a 'fake' or 'reproduction jacket.
Even the REAL MCCOY and EASTMAN leathers produce jackets that do no account for the change in the final 4 numbers with changes in size
An Eastman Elite Units G-1's code will always say: 8415-268-7800 regardless of changes in size.

Accordingly, the fact that the CWU above has a correct product code which correctly reflects its size: MED: 8415-01-608-2482 makes it genuine and not one of the many fakes circulating on the Japanese reproduction domestic market.
However, simply because its genuine does not make it genuine issue.
As @bazzer very correctly pointed out above, VAL codes indicate commercial market.

So, you have a genuine Valley Mil-Spec, but commercial market CWU-45/P before you.
I have seen this before being sold in Japan, so no worries there! Even seen it on the Bay a few times!

Finally, about what size to go for, what's your chest size?
If you need a SMALL, tough luck; 2nd gen CWUs in small are tough to find.
If you need a MED, good lord there are a ton of new-without-tags-condition jackets on Ebay right now!

excellent explanation! Now I understand! Many thanks! According to my chest size, I have 43,44 cm from shoulder to shoulder

My chest circumference is 90 cm aproximmately

With 90 cm Chest, 43 shoulder-shoulder, and being about what 170cm?
I would recommend a size small, and even then you might need the sleeves shortened. (I know, because I am about the same size as you)
My advice? Be patient.
A lot of NOS SMALLs up on Ebay are extremely overpriced.
But every once in a while you'll get a unworn genuine issue CWU-45/P for around 100-120 USD before shipping.
Knowing what I know now, I would not pay more than 120 USD before shipping for an unworn specimen. (They do exist!)

Another thing, and this is my secret...
Don't search for CWU Jacket.
Ebay's search works on title key-words, and most people simply title their listings as whatever the jacket tag says.
So, you should search for 'Jacket Flyers Small' or just 'Jacket Flyers' and check the tagging for size.

Happy hunting! I am happy to help so DM me if you need more guidance.
