What? I am not sure what you are getting at but yes I strive to be. While receiving the cancer diagnosis late last year has not changed my views regarding common courtesy, my couldn't give a toss response to petty comments on minor forums such as this has grown immeasurably.

Cheerio.
Sorry to hear about your illness..... I wish you well. And will keep you posted on here when my purchase arrives..... they did say around 14 to 16 weeks! Due to lockdown and Christmas which I fully understand. To all - Stay safe !

Hi bseal and thanks for that but I had already seen that one and been in touch but the sleeves are too short.... my jackets are 26” sleeve. Savings wise.... with postage and import duties it get‘s fairly close to a brand spankers one from Aero. I’ll stick with the direction I’ve gone in - Aero have been very helpful and I won’t go back on my word now.
Cheers and thanks

This would be as expensive as a new jacket from aero.Factor in shipping, customs, vat & handling charge from carriers.Doesn’t make sense for a U.K. buyer nowadays.Unfortunately,

How much is shipping, handling and customs? I like numbers, feel free to break it down into minutiae.

Yeah,,Saturday night hang on till I get on to ups, customs & the tax office & parcel force ,I will have this information come Monday,,or you can just take my word for it as someone who has been through the buying from USA on more than one occasion.

Since it’s the weekend, maybe you can look at your personal records and gather the hard data from your own purchases? Whatever you procure could quite possibly be more cogent than the anecdote. Thanks.

From what I have seen on ebay, shipping from the ‘States is a bit of a lottery..... I’ve seen it vary for jackets from £20 to £60 and import depends on the combined price of that paid for the jacket and post....which I think is a percentage figure, probably VAT and a custom handling charge. So you can see that on a £500 pound jacket with post at say £30.... you’re talking £600 plus easily.
Just my four penny worth.... check out ebay and have a look? And now we’re out of Europe..... you can expect some sort of fee from there?? Dunno.... I’m an amateur...... but the bottom line for me is trust too. If I have an issue, it’s FAR easier to sort in the home country than from 4000 miles away - you can bang on doors for starters.....
Bye for now!

34 years in Royal Mail,,& buying 8 jackets from the states also gives me a fairly good idea how shipping works out to the U.K..I hope you can settle now and then enjoy your jacket once aero gets it out to you,I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
I thought it was kinda strange that someone was trying to steer you away from a renowned firm here in the U.K.,then I saw that he had a bad experience 10 years ago,,god that’s a long time to hold a grudge. But it saves me going through my personal records for the hard data,,:)

The poster asked for experiences relating to issues with Aero.

Talk around it chaps, duck, evade, change the subject, confabulate, it’s reflective of your self esteem.

The moment a solitary comment arose that clearly addressed on point such Aero issues as requested, the UK mob comes in?

“someone was trying to steer you away from a renowned firm here in the U.K.”

Not “someone,” but a fellow jacket enthusiast.

Please don’t turn this into an us against them. If so, then The Fedora Lounge clearly wants you as the moderator in the VLJ. Fedora is a reputable place, but it’s anathema is the profound Aero bias. My preference, and I suspect other long standing members would also share a similar opinion, that our forum not devolve into frequent sycophantic bootlicking upon the insertion of censorship.

Moreover, most of the suggestions were of all fair priced originals in wearable condition (Hello?!), and even an Aero from a fellow forum member.

Maybe the original poster only wanted a nice, big, virtual group hug from his mates on the other side of the pond and you guys read the subtext just right. If so, then team UK won. Cheers.

If you can’t give a reasonable approximation of the sizeable VAT / Import / duties with your vast experience and instead say “trust me,” well...there you go.

Lordy. What did I start? If it was affordable for me to buy from ANYWHERE abroad I would have but as per my last post.... anyone dealing/spending a lot of money(to me anyway) in their home country, and IF they encounter an “issue” I feel it would be easier to get sorted than getting satisfaction having to ‘to and fro’ to another country? If I am wrong - so be it..... but as I have said more than once - I have agreed a deal that I am content with. I will not go back on my word.
Please can we leave it there UNLESS someone has RECENT issues, or like others if they are happy - reassure a buyer trying to spend wisely - the ONCE.
It was never my expectation that a straightforward question on an enthusiast forum would generate such vitriol from any quarter.
I would like to thank those who have been so helpful and welcoming to me joining this forum - THANKYOU.
Anyway - on that last note - I’ll get me coat...... oh - can’t - it’s not here yet!
Bye for now!
Jim

This can’t be coming from the very same person who (and totally within their right by the way) put seemingly pro insurrection / sedition/ ‘cause people were frustrated comments on the Sad Day (attack on the US Capitol and innocent people died) thread?

Nah, you got the wrong guy.
So, perhaps a case of mistaken identity then?
