Didn't get to Gisborne, closest we were was in Napier. Spent 3 nights in Christchurch while we did the Tranzalpine. We did the dinner tram and it wasn't until that point that I realised the full extent of the earthquake damage. We had walked around the center but on the tram we saw so many buildings still awaiting remediation.
I had a wee smile, one of the cans of craft brew I had was from Dunedin. On the side of the can it said "best enjoyed at 10 degrees Celsius, or as we call it in Dunedin, room temperature. "

Napier is lovely, pretty part of the world. Not bad surfing beaches round there too back when I was into that :)

My sister was very lucky during the quake, her whole building collapsed. They're tough down there though and have bounced back. Not a bad rugby team either ;-)

Interesting thread with some good exchanges.
Ive read several posts wherein some are discussing ELC B-3 jackets and their desire to one day own one, So let’s take a look at what it would cost in today’s dollars to purchase one. Here in the US the current price of an ELC Perry Mixed Batch B-3 is $1715.00 . Shipping to my door is $55.75. US import duties , and I’m estimating these based on ELC A2 jackets I’ve purchased direct from ELC , is about $90- 115.00. So with all of that the jacket would cost roughly $1870.75. That’s a decent bite out of anyone’s jacket budget. Now with regard to the resale value of this jacket increasing due to ELC prices increasing, that hasn’t been my experience. Resale value on pre owned ELC jackets seems to run around 50-60% of purchase value on most of the jackets I’ve sold over the years . In fact I have had a very nice ELC Perry B-3 on EBay for the last couple of weeks at 1/2 of the original price and no takers. So from my perspective the jacket seems to have been over priced as people are just not buying them at the reduced prices. So if I wanted another jacket, pricing would definitely be a major consideration and I would look at other options rather than ELC. Just my opinion.

Fairly recently sold an older ELC RW A-2 (fitted too snug) & a BOB Irvin type (not getting worn & not keen on the hide).

Realised a bit over 60% back and had about 10 years use out of them..not a bad return for me really.

Don't want a big bank 'bite' on my next purchase :)

Keep thinking about B-3's Mmmmmm

You don't lose a cent if you don't sell it..

Huh? I just checked their website and it’s still the same as it’s been for a while: original contract A-2s for £1100, B-10s and B-15s for £700.

Then it seems they raised some of them only for now. As the FLYING TIGER ELITE is now 1400 and it was 1300 until recently. As this was the price i have paid for mine in November

Could well be that they’re selectively raising prices on the things they think will be more highly marketable to their target audience.

Or little by little to go under the radar

Hah! Good luck to them in doing that - the people here have noticed every price increase.

Interestingly, some of the items look a bit cheaper than I remember them being: I remember their house A-2s being £1000, but when I checked today they were £950. Likewise, the house B-3s are now at the same price point as an original contract A-2. It's very possible I'm misremembering though - I haven't kept a close track of the prices on their house items. There's a part of me that would like to think they're trying to find a middle path between appealing to new markets and holding onto their old customer base, but as I write it out I can't quite believe it. ;)

What's rather interesting is that now (after talking about and quoting historic ELC pricing earlier in this thread) most of the archived product pages on the ELC site which were accessible with Archive.org earlier and obviously showed historical pricing for ELC jackets have now disappeared or been removed.

Make of that what you will ;)

LOL!.... Checking their six o'clock....no doubt.... ;)

Well maybe it's all just a big coincidence Burt :D

Apparently it's been common knowledge/mythology for some time that Gary and/or some of the ELC guys lurk around here, so as not a devout believer in pure coincidence, I'd say all the discussions of price increases and backing it up with concrete statistics led to some fairly rapid emails from ELC HQ to Archive.org requesting certain pages were made no longer available.

Once again I might be entirely wrong but funny how those pages were available 12 days ago and now after all this discussion about ELC price increases they've now suddenly been removed/made not longer accessible.

;)

Out of curiosity, does anyone remember what their prices on house AAF jackets were like earlier in the year? I’m trying to figure out if I’m imagining things...
